Earlier,
Sebastian had met with advisors and ministers regarding the vampires with magic. On his way there, a scroll had been sent to him about a recent attack in town by the vampires and rogues.
After the discussion, he returned with Leif to find that Eve was missing. His eyebrows furrowed, wondering where she had gone. He had been certain she would stay and await his return as she was nervous around vampires.
"Leif, search the mansion for Eve," he ordered, having looked around the crowd but not catching sight of her. Leif bowed and walked away, leaving him alone. His hands gripped the rails as his eyes darkened. He was sure something was not right.
Leif walked through the crowds searching for the human, but she wasn't among them. She couldn't have possibly taken an interest in the mansion and wandered off, he thought, as he moved into the corridor, stopping at every room to listen.
Walking further away from the hall and not finding any trace of her, he decided to go back to check outside when he caught a high-pitched cry. He turned quickly with a frown and traced the voice only to find his brother's treasured property in the hands of a vampire. He lunged quickly at the vampire, pulling him off Eve before flinging him hard against the wall.
A single look at her and he was glad he had been the one to find her, but this was soon cut short when he noticed her staring wide-eyed at the entrance of the corridor. He turned to see his brother staring hard at Eve, recognizing the bloodlust in his eyes. He watched as his brother lunged at the vampire, picked him up, and ripped his head off.
Blood splattered on his face and clothes, and also on Leif who stood nearby. He dropped the body to the ground where it convulsed for a few seconds before falling limp. He tossed the head aside before looking up at Eve, who stared at him with shock visible in her brown eyes.
One side of his face was streaked with blood that dripped down slowly. Thick veins appeared at the corner of his red slit eyes as his fangs protruded from his lips. He looked like a feral animal, the same one she had seen in the alley.
Sebastian's eyes still held the same rage as he swept his gaze over Eve. As he took a step forward, she was so frightened that she instinctively moved backward, causing his eyes to narrow further.
It wasn't the first time Eve had seen him like this, yet she was terrified. She had witnessed executions where sinners' heads were cut off as punishment, but not murder in such a cold-blooded manner. The vampire's head had been ripped off like he was a mere toy and even though she knew he deserved it, the gore was too much for her weak heart. She looked pale and all she wanted was to run far away from the vampires.
As Sebastian took another step towards her, she couldn't help but move back again. This time, he growled, making her shudder.
"Evelyn," her name fell from his lips in an icy voice. He was getting angrier as she continued to stay away from him. It made him feel inhuman. Of course, he wasn't human, but right now, she was making him feel so much like a beast and it clawed his heart.
He raised up his bloody hands and tried to hold her but Leif stopped him. "She is not used to this and is clearly affected. You are making it worse," he whispered and he noticed how Sebastian stiffened. His hands dropped to his side and casting one last glance at Eve, he turned and walked away, the weight of his steps heavy on the marbled floor.
Leif turned to Eve who was still staring at Sebastian before looking away. Her hands fisted her dress which she twisted as she gulped.
"Do you think he's mad at me?" Eve asked, she didn't mean to stay away but her survival instinct had kicked in seeing him like that.
"I would say that," Leif nodded before crouching over the body on the ground. He pulled out the knife from his black shoes and tore his clothes from the back. He looked at the bare skin before standing up and said to Eve.
"We should go."
She didn't look at the body again as she walked away, her heart still pounded in her chest and she subconsciously moved her hand to her neck where the man bit her. It was no longer bleeding and she hoped the blood that had trailed out won't make Leif thirsty as she knew how the smell of blood was reactive to Vampires. She looked at him from the corner of her eyes, he looked peaceful compared to her whose face gave away all of her fear. She saw a smile on his face but it faded too quickly making her wonder if she imagined it.
When they reached the hall, the music had died down and everyone was looking perplexed. The sight of their King looking so feral and bloody all over was new to most of them and they wondered who be had killed. Not sighting Eve, Oriana almost smiled that perhaps she was the one Sebastian had killed but alas the human appeared from the corridor with Leif and one glance at her, they knew what happened.
"Have two of the guards dispose the body in one of the corridors," Leif ordered the Fletchers who bowed and quickly walk away.
Oriana's lips twitched realizing what had gone wrong, a vampire had drink from the human resulting to his death handed down by the King himself and it made her wonder if the man was beginning to like her.
Everyone stared at the girl hungrily but they didn't dare take a step towards her. Some resulted to biting into one of their own as they couldn't control their taste that was getting worse with the girl still in the room.
When Sebastian came back, silence fell once more in the room as they watch him walk towards Eve. His intimidating aura enveloped strongly in the room that made them bow at him as he walked past them. His clothes had been changed and his hair was wet.
"Stay here until the Queen is ready to leave, I'll be taking Evelyn home with me," he said to Leif who curtsied a bow. He turned towards Eve who froze from the intensity of his eyes before slowly calming herself down.
"Come with me," his voice was cold, void of any emotion. This wasn't the man that loved to tease her.
