Chapter 28: Lucian's Regression (1)

"Ms. Zhang, I think he's doing very well."

"Really…?"

"Yes. If you continue to talk with him on topics he likes, he will really open up more. He is only 11 — and any other child with his condition wouldn't even be able to communicate."

"We believe you. It's just that… when he created that pill that could turn even ordinary humans into gods, he didn't go out of his lab for 9 months straight and didn't talk to anyone. We feel…

…that his speech and emotions might have regressed."

Sometime 19 years ago, small Lucian was living in a large mansion somewhere far away from the city, where the loudest noise would be the birds chirping and calling their mates. And in the main living room, Lucian's parents were seated and talking to what seemed to be some sort of female therapist.

Lucian very much looked like his parents; his father of Oriental descent, skin incredibly pale and almost seemingly appearing to be feminine — with his long eyelashes and sharp features. If he wasn't sporting a short hairstyle, he would probably look even more beautiful than the therapist.

His mother had long brown hair; her eyes incredibly blue and almost absorbing all of the light that seeped into the large windows — and of course, as one would expect; with his father being beautiful, his mother was even more so. There was a sort of gentle elegance in her that couldn't be hidden even if she tried.

"Honey, Cultivators are not gods," Lucian's mother let out a long and deep sigh as she placed her hand on her husband's shoulder, "They're just people like us, just a little more special like our baby boy."

"Oh, Mrs. Zhang. Believe me, your son is even more special," the therapist adjusted her glasses as she looked at Lucian, who was just sitting on the floor while lifting up a cat right in front of him, staring at the cat's eyes for perhaps more than 5 minutes now,

"As the cultivators might say, he is a one-in-a-thousand-years genius — perhaps even more."

"I don't want him to be a genius, I just want him to be my son," Lucian's father cross his arms while shaking his head, "He could have been an artist if he wanted to, we already have all the money we need."

"Correction, honey — I already have all the money we need," Lucian's mother cleared her throat, "And he is a once-in-a-million-years genius."

"We're married, sweetie," Lucian's father waved his hand, "And you don't have to tell the nice lady that I married you for your money."

"She's a doctor, honey. Please treat her as such," Lucian's mother rolled her eyes as she gently patted the therapist's hand, "I'm sorry, my husband could be denser than Lucian sometimes."

"Men will always be like that, Mrs. Zhang," the therapist and Lucian's mother shared a laugh.

"Hahaha!" But Lucian, all of a sudden, joined in on their laughter as he looked at the therapist and the others.

"No, baby…" Lucian's mother sighed as she kept the smile on her face, "...It's not good to join in on conversations so suddenly, okay?"

"Oh?" Lucian tilted his head to the side before glancing at the therapist.

"No, it's okay," the therapist stood up and approached Lucian; also sitting on the floor with him, "Because we are friends, right?"

"Yes," Lucian nodded as he pointed at his mother and father, "Friends."

"N…no," the therapist only awkwardly smiled as she looked at Lucian's parents, "They are your parents, Lucian."

"I know that," Lucian shrugged, "But can they also not be my friends, Ms. Therapist?"

"No, they are—"

"Baby!" And before the therapist could even finish her words, Lucian's mother just suddenly joined them on the floor and started hugging Lucian; tears, threatening to fall from her eyes, "We are friends, okay? Mommy and Daddy are your best friends!"

"Mrs. Zhang, it's also important to create boundaries and…" The therapist wanted to say more, but the only thing she could really do was sigh and return back to the sofa… only to see Lucian's father with his arms crossed, also on the verge of tears but trying his best to stop it — it was weird, Lucian's father looked feminine, and yet his actions were incredibly… macho.

"Thank you for what you've done for Lucian, Doctor."

"No, I was… just doing my job," the therapist smiled as she glanced at Lucian, "He's a very special boy, Mr. Zhang. And—"

"!!!"

And before the therapist could finish what she was saying, a loud thunder suddenly echoed through the entire mansion — the main door, violently shooting across the hall in pieces.

"Who!?" Lucian's father quickly rushed toward the back of the fireplace, grabbing a rifle hidden on the side before standing in front of his wife and Lucian, "Doctor, behind me!"

The therapist was initially frozen in shock and couldn't move, but as soon as she saw the gun, she quickly joined Lucian and his mother.

"Where… where are Thomas and the others!?" Lucian's mother said, "They should be guarding the estate!"

"Doctor, please call the cops!"

"I…okay, okay! I will—" The therapist panicked to grab her phone from her bag, but before she could do so, she stopped as soon as she saw the people barging into the mansion — how could she not, when the police were already in front of them?

The Immortal Police, that is.

"Dr. Lucian Zhang!" The man who seemed to be leading the squad held out some sort of scroll as he stepped into the living room, "Hear our decree! You are hereby sentenced to imprisonment for the murder of 10 people!"

"Murder…? What nonsense is this!?" Lucian's father did not lower his rifle at all, "Why is the Heaven's Judgment here!? The only cultivators we have in this place is our security!"

"Where… where are Thomas and the others!? They—"

"Let's cut this charade."

"!!!"

Both the therapist and Lucian's mother let out a loud gasp — the two of them, quickly covering Lucian's eyes as another group of people wearing masks entered the living room; one of them, carrying a handful of decapitated heads by their hair. The blood, just carelessly dripping on their marbled floor as they approached.

"You killed them!?" The leader of the squad seemed incredibly shocked upon seeing this as he quickly lowered the scroll, "This wasn't part of the plan! We're not wearing masks like you people!"

"Our plan is to just take the boy," the man dropped the heads he was holding as he gestured to the other masked men, "The Heaven's Judgment is to… well, clean up after us."

"S… stay away!" Lucian's father pointed his rifle at the masked men approaching them, "Just leave us alone, okay!? This… I can talk to my lawyer if something—"

"The laws of mortals do not concern us." And before Lucian's father could finish his words, one of the masked men just suddenly appeared right in front of him, "You are nothing but mud."

"H… honey…? Honey!" Lucian's mother could not help but gasp. How could she not? When she saw an arm just emerged and pierced through her husband's back, "N…no… No… Liang…? Liang!?"

Lucian's mother just wanted to jump toward her husband, but the only thing she could do was watch as the masked man swung his arm — violently throwing Lucian's father toward the wall like some sort of insect; his body, beyond mangled.

"Fuck! Fuck!" The leader of the Heaven's Judgment squad could not help but curse as he saw that, "We can't—we can't be involved in this anymore! Fuck! You're killing normies!"

The leader of the Heaven's Judgment police and his squad ran away. The other masked men blocked their path at first, but they just made way for them after the masked man who just killed Lucian's father gestured to them to let them go.

"...Father."

"N…no, Lucian!" The therapist was terrified, extremely so. And yet as soon as she saw Lucian's mother unconsciously lowering her hand from the shock, she quickly covered Lucian's eyes instead when she saw him looking at his father's body, "Don't look, don't—"

"Hm?" Lucian blinked a couple of times as the therapist's hand dropped. He glanced at the therapist, only to see her head dropping from her neck and rolling right in front of him.

"What do you want with my son!?" Lucian's mother finally woke up from her stupor as she quickly moved in front of Lucian, stretching her arms to the side. As for Lucian, he just calmly picked up the therapist's head and started hugging it,

"My son… my son didn't do the things you're telling him he did! Why… why are you doing this to us!? We're just… we're just normal people."

"Normal…" The masked man snickered in disgust as he started looking around the large living room, "...Nothing's normal here. People like you shouldn't be living in houses like this."

"What…? Do… do you want the house? Money…? You can… you can take it," Lucian's mother also looked at the officers from Heaven's Judgment while pleading, "Just… just leave my son alone, please… please! He's not—"

And there, Lucian watched as the masked man grabbed his mother by the head and shoulder… before just ripping her right in front of him without any hesitation.

Lucian really only blinked in response, slightly bobbing his body back and forth as he looked at his mother's corpse.

"Uh oh…" Lucian whispered out as he very gently grabbed his mother's hand, "...Uh oh."

"So, this is the kid…" The masked man just stared down at Lucian for a few seconds before turning around and looking at his comrades,

"...Take him."

Fucking hell... wtf.
