Day 14:
9:00 AM – Woke up to the sound of birds chirping and the bustling noise of activity outside my window. It sounded like a construction site had collided with a parade. Poked my head out to see the minions setting up ladders and carrying buckets of paint. Today, it seems, is the day we spruce up the castle.
9:30 AM – Over a breakfast of pancakes and syrup (thankfully made by Agnes, not Grog), discussed the day's plan with the team. Grog was particularly excited, which is never a good sign. His enthusiasm tends to be inversely proportional to his competence.
Interlude – Breakfast Briefing:
Grog: "We're gonna make the castle look amazing, boss! I've got some great ideas!" Vortax: "Grog, your last great idea was mixing all the leftover soup into a smoothie. Let's keep the ideas... restrained."
10:00 AM – Divvied up the tasks. Grog and a few minions would handle the heavy lifting and exterior painting. Agnes, of course, was in charge of interior decorations. I decided to focus on the garden, which still bore the scars of our previous battles.
11:00 AM – Started by planting some new flowers in the garden. Opted for a mix of roses, tulips, and sunflowers. They're bright, cheerful, and less likely to try and eat the minions.
12:00 PM – The minions, under Grog's dubious leadership, began painting the castle walls. Chose a classic stone grey, but with a touch of blue. Grog thought it would look "regal," and for once, he might be onto something.
Interlude – Painting Problems:
Minion 1: "Boss, should we paint around the gargoyles or just paint over them?" Vortax: "Let's keep the gargoyles visible. They add character. And besides, I think they'd prefer to keep their original look."
2:00 PM – Checked on Agnes's progress inside the castle. She was transforming the main hall into a warm, inviting space with tapestries, rugs, and an abundance of potted plants. It was starting to look less like a villain's lair and more like a cozy home.
4:00 PM – Disaster struck when one of the minions spilled a bucket of paint on Grog. He looked like a smurf with a glandular problem. After a good laugh (and a thorough cleaning), we got back to work. Decided to turn the mishap into an impromptu break and had a picnic in the garden.
Interlude – Paint Predicaments:
Grog: "I think I'm more blue than ogre now, boss!" Vortax: "Look on the bright side, Grog. You're making a fashion statement. Just not a very good one."
6:00 PM – With the exterior painting nearly done and the garden blooming, it was time to address the final touch: a new banner. Decided on a design that combined the old crest with a symbol of hope—a phoenix rising from the ashes.
7:00 PM – Gathered everyone in the courtyard for the big reveal. Unfurled the banner, and it was met with cheers and applause. Even the gargoyles seemed to approve, though it might have just been the lighting.
Interlude – Banner Banter:
Minion 2: "Boss, it looks amazing! What does the phoenix symbolize?" Vortax: "It symbolizes our new beginning. Rising from the ashes of our past mistakes and becoming something better."
8:00 PM – Celebrated the day's hard work with a feast in the newly decorated main hall. Grog's contribution to the meal was limited to fetching drinks, which was a relief to all. The atmosphere was warm and joyous, like a family gathering after a long time apart.
10:00 PM – Retreated to my chambers, exhausted but happy. The castle looked fantastic, and for the first time, it felt like a true home. Reflecting on the day, I realized how far we'd come. From feared villain to community leader, it's been a wild ride.
End of Day 14
Diary Commentary – Vortax (formerly known as Max):
Today was a day of castle sprucing and spectacular shenanigans, of paint spills and heartfelt laughter. Despite the mishaps, we managed to transform the castle into a place of beauty and warmth. It's strange to think that just a few weeks ago, I was a feared tyrant. Now, I'm debating the merits of different flower arrangements and paint colors. Here's to tomorrow, and whatever decorating disasters it may bring.
