Chester's Introduction

Chester

Chester focused his wide brown left eye on the black beetle then his right green eye. He watched it strut across the ground looking for food. He found himself drooling over it. "I got you now beetle!" He whispered.

"Chester!"

Chester yelped twisting his wolf pup

head toward his father.

Chester's father was a lot bigger than he was. He was a dark gray wolf with deep brown eyes. His left ear was torn, and he was never smiling in public.

"What're you doing?" Chester's father, Alpha, growled. Chester cheekily pawed at the ground staring anywhere but at his father's eyes, "I was just practicing hunting before training." Alpha tilted his head suspiciously at his son. Chester swallowed and quickly changed the subject. "Well, let's start then!" He yips nervously, beginning to trot away on his fast paws. Alpha only grunts and begins to catch up to Chester.

That was close, Chester thinks. A sparrow swoops above him, and he licks his lips as a little drool falls from his jaw. Alpha growls and Chester stops. His ear twitches, and he sits down eagerly, "So, what's the training today?" Alpha yawns wide showing his sharp wolf teeth, "You're going to show me how to hunt." Chester's tail wags widely, "Okay!" He confidently walks around a bit shaking some of his fear away.

Okay, he thinks, you can do this! This is finally a chance to show Dad that I can be as good as Skull!

Chester stands on his hind legs sniffing the air, and his father watches quietly. When he drops back down to his gray paws his tail fans the air. "I smell a mouse!" He whispers to Alpha. Alpha nods amused at Chester's excitement, "Now, catch it." Chester firmly nods and grins with all his wolf-ish teeth showing. He slowly creeps on the ground searching for the mouse, and his eyes finally

meet its body.

It's a simple and small brown rodent hunched over a seed.

Chester drags his tongue along his teeth as his eyes go crazy. "Your mine!" He whispers. He brings his rear in the air to have a kick start, and suddenly the mouse isn't hunched over anymore. It stands on its hind legs as Chester had, its head twitching around to look for a sound.

Chester took a step back, confused by the mouse's sudden action. But when Chester stepped back his forepaw had cracked a stick. The snap made the mouse shoot off and Chester growled chasing after it. The mouse zagged around trees, and Chester was coming closer and closer to catching it until it scurried up a tree, out of reach of the wolf pup's jaws. He stood on his hind legs growling and jumping trying to get the mouse.

He growled loudly in frustration, and it echoed through the trees. He dropped back down to his paws and turned back to his father, ears drooping.

"Well, that was pathetic."

Chester looked up at his father in disbelief that he'd said something so mean, but it hadn't been Alpha.

It was Skull.

Chester's much older brother.

Skull was a lighter gray, as his mother was, and his eyes were green like hers as well, but his traits were of his father's.

"You weren't even close to catching it," Skull growls trotting toward his family. "That's not true!" Chester snaps, but he's unusually quiet after the remark. "Th-that's not true...right, Dad?" He asks quietly. The pup's father only sighs, stands up, and shakes his fur. "Training is done for the day. I've... I've seen enough," Alpha growls, and his loud voice booms across the forest.

Skull shoves past his brother leaving Chester on his rump. He whimpers quietly to himself at his failed hunting experience and follows his family home from a wide distance.
