Blue Velvet

When Patrick Holt’s ex-boyfriend Clay Teal asks him to serve as the best man in his wedding to the man he left Patrick for, Patrick initially balks at the request. Even though he and Clay have been on fairly good terms since their breakup, Patrick is still bitter about the way Clay dumped him. But after Patrick’s new boyfriend convinces him that being a part of Clay’s wedding would help to resolve the years of “issues” between the two men, Patrick reluctantly agrees. In the weeks leading up to the big day, Patrick discovers he’s having a very hard time dealing with Clay’s upcoming nuptials. He also finds himself thinking more about his failed relationship with Clay and the events that led to their breakup. And, at the center of it all, was one lovely blue velvet jacket. Will the same problems follow him into his new relationship?

Chapter 10

Even though the ceremony wasn’t scheduled to start for another hour, Clay had asked that I show up early so we could go over a few things beforehand. Thankfully, my mother had arrived early also, so I wouldn’t have to ditch Eric in the company of strangers while I went off to find Clay. I spotted her chatting with Clay’s mother when Eric and I walked in. The two women had met once or twice while Clay and I had been seeing each other.

After a round of greetings and introductions, I left Eric with the ladies, then went to find Clay. A hostess stationed at the front foyer informed me that I’d find “Mr. Teal” in the upstairs bedroom just left of the staircase. I thanked her and headed that way. I was about to go upstairs when I heard a voice say, “I’m can’t believe you showed up, Patrick.”
