Blue and Magenta

Magenta Davies and Blue Harrison have been frenemies from day one, and everybody knows it. At Oakstone Academy, there are many things the students can and cannot do, but there is only one golden rule. No fighting. Not physically, nor verbally. But ever since Blue pushed Magenta in the pool when they were eight, a full war broke out between them. Nothing could stop them from wiggling their way around the golden rule and watchful eyes. From small pranks to large scale humiliation, the two of them are experts at battling each other. Neither of them is willing to give in, until the other one drops out. And they both know there’s no chance either will give up. But the year they turn seventeen, things begin to change. For better or worse, Magenta and Blue are about to find out. As they say, there’s a thin line between love and hate.

Birthday Celebration

In true Blue and Magenta fashion, they hosted a prank rewind party on their seventeenth birthday.

It was a mashup celebration of all the different pranks they'd done to each other in the past. How else would they celebrate but at a BBQ pool party? The fathers did the barbecuing and the quartet played around in the pool.

The pool was similar to the one in Oakstone, but it was a rented location in the city near where Magenta lived. It was a gorgeous location, with fairy lights strewn all across the lawn and swimming area too, and little things that made the whole place seem more tropical, like the drinks covers and the fruity-inspired decoration.

"Okay, and then you were sitting at this edge," Jasper started demonstrating by sitting prim and proper on the side of the pool.

"And then Blue comes up. Very cute and innocent looking," Shelby said, pretending to be Blue.

"and then bam! Blue pushes you in the pool," Jasper said. His hand pushed Shelby in and she swam out before pushing Jasper in the pool too.

Magenta loved her best friends' interpretations of the incident that caused Blue and Magenta to feud against each other until the past year. The very thing that should have torn them apart brought them together now, and it was a distant yet fond memory, even if the emotions at the time weren't positive. That was how memories worked though strangely enough, sometimes people had memories becoming core memories, even though once they'd had adverse effects, now they were part of the story that built each human.

"Tada! That's the story of how our best friends met, the beginning of their epic love story!"

Shelby and Jasper were announcing to all but the people who already knew the story and that included Blue and Magenta. But they were having such a great time reliving their prank experiences.

On reflection, Magenta knew that what used to be a bane was now becoming a blessing. The things that were bad now were good. And she wouldn't have it any other way.

"Okay, now it's your turn Mag! Change that story! Yes! Feminism for the win!"

Magenta pranced around, acting like Blue didn't exist and then she saw him, her eyes flaring into bulls. She charged and pushed him into the pool, and he fell like an angel embracing the snow.

Blue still looked effortlessly handsome as he swam out of the pool, his arms making languid strokes across the water. Magenta mentally slapped herself, for getting turned on already.

"Hey, you didn't have to push so hard!" Blue said, tossing his hair back, drizzling water over Magenta who amped up the splashing water to Blue.

Magenta said, "Well, I was only matching your strength!"

Blue kissed Magenta before he said, "Yeah, you're right. I'm pretty strong."

"Okay, the next prank!" Shelby announced, breaking the lovebirds up with her loud squawk.

They revisited the underwear prank too but changed it up with pairs of everyone's underwear. They waved the underwear around, stretching them and throwing clean pairs at each other. Other pranks included the water balloon prank, and the toilet paper. But trying to be more environmental, they did something called digital teepeeing. They used digital tablets to play a team versus game.

Magenta and Blue played on the same team and won without trying hard.

"Ha," Blue said, giving a high five to his girlfriend.

"Not fair," Jasper complained.

"All's fair in love and war," Magenta said.

As Magenta went to eat some BBQ food, she grabbed some meat and bread. Her father winked at her, grilling the meat on the flat side of the barbeque grill pan. The flames rose up and down.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Magenta asked her dad.

"Nothing, can't I look at my daughter?" Tim asked.

"Not with a weird look like that," Magenta teased.

Just then, Jasper wolf-whistled and clapped five times to get everyone's attention.

"And now the best prank that isn't a prank," Jasper announced, appearing at the pole near the swimming pool.

Magenta tried to see what Jasper was talking about but there wasn't anything to see except her friends and her boyfriend standing there. Then a whizzing sound came from above and Blue said, "Look up!"

Magenta caught her breath in astonishment. A plane looped around the sky, on a cloudless day. The plane spelled letters in the sky "I LUV YOU" and Magenta teared up. The skywriting made for a perfect picture opportunity as Blue and Magenta embraced, Shelby, personified herself as a movie director, telling everyone to stand aside so she could take a picture for Blue and Magenta.

"No, no tears!" Shelby said, in a bad French accent.

Blue said, "let her cry if she wants."

Magenta jumped into Blue's arms and she whispered, "I love you. You beat me to it!"

Blue smiled and he said, "Beat you to what?"

Magenta turned her head and pointed to the entrance of the pool.

Climbing the steps of the pool was a man dressed formally in a tuxedo. He had on a blue suit and tie, with curly hair. He opened his mouth and started singing. It was a wonderful operatic song. Behind him, a person played the violin and another woman appeared, singing in harmony to the guy singing the opera song.

But what caught Blue by surprise were the words being sung.

"Roses are magenta, violets are blue, do you know how much I love you!"

"I love you," Blue said to Magenta, pulling her in close to him.

Shelby and Jasper cheered and everyone sang happy birthday to Blue and Magenta.
