Chapter 26: It Doesn't Matter

The dash lights danced across Silas’s face as he slid into the passenger seat beside me. “Thanks for giving me a ride back. Honestly, I’m too damn exhausted to run back to Spearfish.” Silas sank into the seat and gave me a tired smile.

“It’s no problem. Why didn’t you bring your car?” I asked.

“To be honest, it’s faster to run, and I was worried about my brother.”

“How is he?”

“Good. Yeah, the doctor said he’ll be fine.”

“What are your siblings' names?”

He gave me a puzzled look.

I shrugged. “Weird question, I guess. It’s just you talk about them but never mentioned what their names are. I was just curious.”

Silas raised his head slowly and then lowered it. It was like a nod, but it made me think it was more of an eye roll or like he might be irritated. He probably was irritated. I talked him into spilling his guts all the time but refused to share my own life with him.
