Chapter 40: Before It Can Start

Leila runs a hand through her hair as she gazes at the mirror, contemplating.

Did she dare visit the man who abandoned her at such a young age? Not only that, but he had ruined the party with his attack against the vampire king. Did she want to know why he had done such a thing?

A loud sigh escapes her.

“What’s the matter, love?”

She nearly falls over in shock at Ezra’s sudden appearance and rambles, a hand placed upon her heart, “Don’t scare me like that, and I was just thinking about going to see the old man.”

He places a kiss to her cheek and questions lightly, “A change of heart?”

Leila shakes her head. “No, but I need to know why he chose now of all times to show up.”

Ezra holds his hand out, gesturing towards the bedroom door. “I will take you to him then if that is what you desire. We can go on our date afterwards if you’re up to it.”
