Chapter 48: The Party's Over

Oliver grabs him and they sink to the floor together. Alastair squeezes him tight until the sobs slow and his breathing calms. Alastair strokes his hair and whispers gentle nonsense into the top of his head, trying not to spiral into a panic attack himself over the evening's events.

The embrace helps them both in the end, although Alastair is afraid to look up and face the full scale of the scene he just witnessed. Eventually, Oliver pokes his head out of Alastair’s arms and blinks up at him with mascara smeared eyes.

“Did I kill him?” he rushes, horrified. Alastair takes a breath. Honestly, he’s not sure.

“I’m going to go check,” Alastair whispers and Oliver nods slowly.

The scene is even more grisly than Alastair thought. All the bodies have fallen where they stood, lifeless without Oliver’s influence and splattered with blood. His father lays in the epicenter of it all, a circle of defeated corpses around him.
