Chapter 30: Cashing In
Eleanor’s POV.
“This is the place?” Paul asks me as we walked in the doors of the diner on the outside of town.
“This is the address that Noah gave me,” I reply, looking over my shoulder.
Paul had been a bundle of stress and nerves ever since Noah sent us word that the judge had indeed fast-tracked his case upon receiving the release of parental rights.
Noah and Andrew had worked around the clock last night to push through the guardian documents, sending us an address this morning to meet with Alexis, Francesca’s caseworker, to collect Francesca.
I, however, was a bundle of nerves for a completely different reason. So much had been unearthed in the last twenty-four hours. So many boundaries and lines have been threatened. People’s lives I cared about were on the line and I felt backed into a corner. The one person who I cared the most about vowed to protect me, but he had his own demons to slay.
