Chapter 16: Complicated Reality
Eleanor’s POV.
“I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to eavesdrop,” I repeat trying to back up.
“Eleanor stop.” Paul’s tone stills my feet.
I watch as he stoops over. He picks up my abandoned cell phone. The source of the loud bang that alerted the men in the tiny office of me being outside of the office, rests in his large hand. The object of his focus.
“I really wasn’t listening. I didn’t hear anything., I state.
“You must have heard something. Or else you wouldn’t be acting like such a frightened feral cat who just got caught digging in the garbage,” Andrei slinks out of the office.
Andrei pins me instantly with an intense look before he leans against the wall, crossing his legs at the ankle.
“No one’s a threat to you, Eleanor.” Paul softens his tone, looking up from what I can only assume is a cracked screen. “I need you to tell me what has you so scared.”
“Nothing.” I shake my head. “It’s not anything—”
