Blades & Roses

Blood. Blood was dripping from my forehead. Panting, I tried to catch my breath. For a minute, I was tempted to look back and see if the Japanese Yakuza was chasing after me. I muttered a curse, trudging through the quiet street, making sure to hide in the shadows, avoiding all streetlights. Stupid Japanese Mafia Boss and his claim to rule the mafia world. But I will never let him. Not after killing my entire family. Thinking about them, a brief flashback of my father screaming for me to flee before a bullet passed through his head, instantly ending his life, appeared in my line of vision. I clenched my hands into fists, sadness and fury burning inside me. I will make sure that the Japanese Mafia will pay for what they did. I will avenge my father. My family. From this day forward, they have declared war. And war they shall have. *** Cover Image from Google

No rest for the wicked

TAKAHASHI

I clucked my tongue staring at Allan Cortez's youngest child, his lifeless eyes gazing towards the vast starless sky.

Should I feel guilty? He was after all just an innocent kid. Unlike the adults, he would have been nothing but a nuisance. Plus, he had done nothing except for being Allan Cortez's son.

There came a little rumble from above, signalling the coming of a rainfall. I wrinkled my nose, imagining the smell of freshly wet soil after the rain.

"Too bad, your sister couldn't save you," I said to Michael Cortez's corpse, thinking of the look of pure rage reflected on Margaux's bloodied face. I can't help the smirk from forming across my lips.

"Wait, let me rephrase that," I paused and cleared my throat. "Too bad your sister didn't choose to save you and instead allowed me to pull the trigger and then went away to save herself."

I paused yet again.

"Isn't that selfish? Your dearest sister, Margaux, is not selfless after all. She's selfish."

I said the smirk seeming to deepen at the thought. After which I gestured for Uyazumi, wanting him to get rid of the body.

Michael Cortez can now peacefully lie with the rest of his family. However, no funeral shall ever be held for them. I have already thought of a good cover story for their sudden demise.

Everything that went down tonight had all been planned out. The whole world won't ever know of the truth regarding the death of the Cortez Family. With that said, I need Margaux Cortez to die as well.

Like her father and brother, I will make sure that she dies in my hands. It had seemed that she had both Daisuke and Myojo killed. It only added more reason for me to give her the worse kind of torture. I will have her begging for mercy.

Daisuke was my father's underboss before he became mine. I learned from him more than my father had taught me anything regarding the Mafia. To say the least, he was like a second father to me.

Daisuke came from a good family. However, the pressure placed on him by his family was too much for him to handle. He ran away when he was eighteen and met my father while trying to escape being caught after stealing a prized jewelry from a local jewelry store back in Japan.

My father saw potential on him and decided to save him from being captured by the authorities. It was how Daisuke came to know of the Mafia and from then on, he had vowed loyalty to my father and to the next leader that followed after him and so forth for the rest of his mortal life.

Myojo on the one hand had grown up within the Mafia. His entire family has always been part of the Yakuza. He and I were almost the same age. Almost, but he was older by a few months. Myojo was like the brother I never had. There was just me and Aiko.

I had chosen Myojo to be my first Capo as he had seemed deserving of that title. Not only that, I knew that I could trust him.

"Margaux, did she manage to escape?" I spun and found Paul Del Rosario who was Allan Cortez's underboss coming towards me.

"As of the moment. My men will surely be able to deliver her to me in a short while," I said trying to read what this man who just betrayed his boss and his entire race was thinking.

I was well aware that he had close ties with the Cortez's. He was especially close to Margaux. So him asking about her was making me a little suspicious about his intentions. Though he had proven himself a reliable ally, I wasn't certain if I could fully put my trust on him.

"You could have spared the kid though," I cocked my head to side, assessing him. "What I mean is that killing Michael Cortez felt rather unnecessary."

"Why? You feel sorry for the kid?" Paul looked at me in the eye, there was something about the way he was staring, however, I can't quite seem to decipher what it was.

"He was too young," he said. I scoffed.

"And Margaux isn't?" I said, testing him and see how he would react. His expression remained blank.

"She is, but, as you have said, she is also standing in your way. The Golden Island still belongs to her as long as she is alive."

"She won't be alive. " I said, thunder rumbled in the sky. The first few drops of rain began to fall on my bare skin. I savored the moment.

I love the rain. I love watching it fall from the sky. I love how it also meant to me.

I see rain as the end result of something tragic that had happened to a person's life, like the heavens up above was also mourning for the people who have been the unfortunate victim.

The idea fascinated me ever since I was a kid. One of the many other reasons why I also love the rain was because a few people hated it.

The old saying did go that hate equates to love. I don't feel any guilt to like things that most people don't. It gives me satisfaction to be able to appreciate those that most human beings cannot even fathom.

"Not for long." I added, finishing my sentence just in time for the downpour to happen, which began to soak me and Paul as we stood eye to eye. In a few minutes, both of us would be drenched.

"Don't underestimate her, Takahashi. You don't know Margaux." I narrowed my eyes towards Paul.

"Where are your loyalties, Paul?"Right this instant, I became uncertain where his loyalties truly lie. However, I didn't wish to lose him as an ally. He was too valuable for that.

Paul Del Rosario had a way with people. I need him by my side to get what I want with a better deal.

Even though I like using my method in acquiring what I desire, it would be a nice change of pace to have someone else do it for me.

"I'm merely stating a fact. You shouldn't have let her go. You should have just killed her when you had the chance."

I smirked.

"I could have but," I paused allowing the thunder to pass by before continuing. "Playing catch is more fun, don't you agree?"
