Chapter 8

As they were sleeping Lone Wolf was awoken by the sound of the horses whining and kicking the stalls. Lone Wolf didn't know what it was so he quickly got up and grabbed his Winchester and started walking towards the barn cautiously, he slowly moved toward the stalls he was calming the horses down. As he was looking around he didn't see anything, so he went back to the house and he put his gun up, and went back to sleep.

When morning came Lone Wolf was up early looking out the window towards the barn.

"You are up early, what are you looking at?" asked Billy walking by.

"The barn, I heard something last night, it was making the horses jumpy, so I went out there and looked but didn't see anything," said Lone Wolf.

"Well it's morning, when everybody gets up we can look around," said Billy.

"Sounds good," said Lone Wolf.

So they walked in the kitchen and Frankie was cooking breakfast and had already made coffee.

"Morning what are we having today?" asked Henry getting a cup of coffee.

"We are having eggs, bacon, and a few biscuits with gravy," said Frankie.

"Sounds good to me, lets eat," said Billy.

They starting eating, they heard the horses whining again.

"See I knew I heard something last night," said Lone Wolf.

They ran outside to the barn and walked in very slowly, but nothing was there. Lone Wolf heard something run out of the barn but could not catch it in time.

"Someone has been sleeping here," said Red Bear.

"Well let's go back in and finish eating then we'll ride back into town," said Henry.

So they went back inside and finished eating. Once they were finished they rode into town. They walked into the general store and went inside. Little Woman walked in as well.

"Hey cousin, how are you?" asked Lone Wolf.

"I'm fine," said Little Woman.

"Well that is good," said Lone Wolf.

Ann came out from the back and up to the front.

"Hi Ann, I have a bag of flour and a bag of sugar," said Henry.

"Okay, that is two cents," said Ann.

"Alright," said Henry pulling change out of his pocket.

"Hello Ann, how are you doing this morning?" asked Lone Wolf.

"Oh I'm fine thank you," said Ann.

"Well that's good," said Lone Wolf.

"Hello Ann," said Little Woman.

"Hello," said Ann.

"Did you see those new dresses at the dress shop window?" asked Ann.

"Yes, they are beautiful," said Little Woman.

"Before I forget, Frankie would like for you to come out to the house for dinner tonight?" asked Henry.

"Oh, I would love to," said Little Woman.

"Okay, we'll see you in a little bit," said Henry walking out of the store.

They got in the wagon and rode back to the ranch.

"Little Woman, why does Lone Wolf not want a woman?" asked Ann.

"You like him don't you? well he likes you as a friend Ann, the reason he is not interested in you like that is you have to be an Indian, he wants a woman that is native because he wants to keep the bloodline going since he is the last of our people that is still somewhat wiled," said Little Woman.

"I see now, so it's not me," said Ann.

"Good heaven Ann, no," smiled Little Woman.

"Well I'll see you later," said Ann.

"Good-by Ann," said Little Woman leaving the store.

Back at Frankie's house, they were all inside while Red Bear was sitting on the porch. He was pretending to read when he was looking towards the trees he saw something run into the barn. So he slowly walked towards the barn and started looking around.

"Alright come on out, I know you are in here," said Red Bear.

So the guy came out from hiding.

"What are you doing here, did someone send you here?" asked Red Bear. "What is your name."

"Josh, my name is Josh."

"Red Bear, come to the house."

So Red Bear walked Josh up to the house.

"Hey guys I found something that has been sleeping in the barn, making the horses jumpy," said Red Bear.

"What?" asked Billy.

"His name is Josh," said Red Bear.

"Welcome Josh," said Henry.

Billy looked at Lone Wolf's face, he already knew he didn't like Josh.

"So what brings you out here?" asked Frankie.

"I read about you all in the papers, so I've found you all and I've been sleeping in your barn," said Josh.

"So why didn't you come out when I was in there the other night?" asked Lone Wolf.

"You had a gun, I didn't want to get my head blown off," said Josh.

"You are wasting your time," said Lone Wolf.

Then Litle Woman walks in and sees Josh. She looked deep into his eyes and she hooked him.

"Hi, my name is Little Woman."

Billy knew that Josh was already hooked. Lone Wolf stepped in and pushed Little Womans' arm down and took her to the table.

"Hi Little Woman, my name is Josh."

"Well sorry about my cousin, he's very protective of me, It's nice to meet you," said Little Woman.

"Likewise," said Josh smiling.

"Well come on let's eat," said Frankie.

So they sat at the table eating and talking.

"I want to be remembered like Jessie James," said Josh.

"Yeah but you don't look like the outlaw type," said Billy.

"But you guys are not afraid of anything," said Josh.

"We are outlaws, you join us you'll get shot at and picked fights with," said Bob.

"You guys can teach me how to shoot and I can use my Indian techniques that my father taught me," said Josh.

"You are native?" asked Little Woman.

"Yes I'm a half-breed Indian," smiled Josh.

"Your not an Indian, you are a wanna-be, just because you have long hair don't make you an Indian, go back to where ever you came from, you are not welcomed here," angered Lone Wolf.

"Lone Wolf, he's alright," said Little Woman.

"Lone," said Henry.

"What if something happens to him we can't protect him and he gets killed, I'm not going to be responsible if something happens to him," said Lone Wolf walking each other.

"Don't mind him, he has had a bad experience with half-breeds," said Little Woman.

"Oh it's alright, no problems," said Josh.

"What is with you today, this is a side of you, I have not seen in a long time," said Henry.

"He is not joining," angered Lone Wolf.

"We need him, Lone Wolf, he needs us as well," said Henry.

Henry and Lone Wolf walked back inside and finished eating.
