Brad's POV
That weekend, we brought Emily and the kids to an ice cream parlor in a nearby town. Because of this, I felt a mixture of joy and sadness at the sight of how much they cared for me. In spite of the fact that Emily had clearly lost her father, I found myself both smiling and crying at the same moment. His death would always be a loss for his family. After lunch, we sat around the table and spoke about Gerome while we ate our big sundaes.
There were so many pleasant memories to recall, and Claire's eyes were filled with encouragement as she saw me focus on those rather than the dreadful decision I had been forced to make. To make amends for what I'd done to Gerome and Emily earlier in the day, I made a decision that day.
