Chapter 18 Exerting Control

“I’ll be going now,” Sherry uttered at the mansion exit. She felt more comfortable in her own clothes, but the fact that Stark’s housekeeper had taken her measurements earlier gave her a subtle hint of Stark’s plans.

Stark promptly ignored her and continued reading his book. It didn’t pique her interest in what he was reading, anyway, so she turned around and made her departure, walking to where Stark’s middle-aged chauffeur, Thomas, waited.

Thomas dropped Sherry off at the nearest subway station, as she requested. Watching the limousine drive away gave her a meager sense of freedom, before she felt her plunge back into her world of poverty. It had been somewhat ‘nice’ to be treated like a guest in Stark’s mansion, and revered with respect.

But things like this weren’t meant to last, she told herself firmly. Once the contractual terms were over, she and Stark would part ways.

Unless he planned to renew their agreement, which she hoped not.
