A Ghost

A girl was sitting on one of our counters with her legs parted, Silas stood between her legs and they were kissing passionately. For some reason, my heart clenched painfully in my chest. Was it the fact that they were making out in our kitchen that disgusted me or something else entirely?

" Silas?" They both stopped their passionate kissing and glanced over at me. The girl seemed momentarily caught off-guard by my sudden appearance, but then she soon had a deep blush across her face from embarrassment. Silas didn't have much of a reaction written on his face. For the first time, I saw that his eyes didn't hold the warmth they always did whenever he looked at me. I reckoned he was mad about what happened last night

" You can go upstairs first Tammy, I'll be right there," Silas said. The girl " Tammy " quickly nods in agreement. She got off the counter and walked her way past me, not without giving me a curious look of course. She didn't even bother saying hi, or maybe Silas had asked her not to

" Silas, who was that?" I asked him more out of curiosity than anything

" A girl am seeing"

" Really? How come you hadn't brought her over to the house before? Does your dad know?"

" I didn't want to"

" Silas..."

" I don't understand why you are so curious all of a sudden Kerina" I frowned slightly at his words. Silas knew just how much I hated being addressed by my full name. It must be that he was trying to provoke me for some reason. I rolled my eyes at his tactics. I walked over to him, he was still leaning against the counter and I reminded myself to clean it up properly before it was set for use

" You were making out in our kitchen Silas, At least that warrants some kind of explanation right?"

" It's my kitchen " His eyes narrowed down at me. " I don't owe you any explanation for what I chose to do with it" He brushed past me, he didn't use much strength but for a human with a delicate physic, it was enough to send me stumbling back. I was momentarily shocked but quickly snapped out of it in favor of running after him

" Silas!" I grabbed onto his hand and held it tightly. It wouldn't have been nearly enough to hold him back since he was much much stronger than I was, but Silas stopped anyway. " You're mad at me, right? You are angry about what I said, I didn't mean it. I didn't know what was wrong with me but I didn't mean what I said. I was being too emotional and I..."

" I can sense a lie Kerry, am not stupid" he turned back to me and I found his eyes were now an almost red color. The only time I've truly seen him like this was when he hadn't fed, I couldn't even remember that event clearly. I was taking an instinctive step back before I knew it, Silas growled and followed after me " We've been living together for how long now, our parents are fucking married Kerry! Do you believe that am still capable of hurting you"

" No, no of course not.."

" That's one more lie. Why can't you be truthful for once in your life? Are you afraid of me killing you?"

" Silas.."

" Answer damnit!"

" Then yes! I am not just afraid of you but of all supernaturals. But you can't blame me for that, can you? I didn't even know any of you existed five years ago and out of nowhere my mom decided to marry a fricking vampire!"

Silas had a blank face at my words. I was trying hard to catch my breath while glaring down at my bare feet. Silas' hand came to tilt my jaw up, my eyes looking into his, but his gaze was fixed on something beside me, his eyes were back to their warm honey-brown color

" You know Kerry, I used to know you even before our parents got married, even before vampires or any other supernatural became more than just made-up fantasy"

" You did?" There was clear disbelief in my voice. I had a pretty good memory and I didn't remember ever coming across Silas before. He didn't have a very forgettable face either.

" The girl who had monsters under her bed, afraid of shadows and the ghost from her mother's bedtime story despite being able to see them. You were never one with an accepting heart were you Kerry?" He smiled down at me. " I shouldn't have put my hopes too high" Silas pulled away from me and walked out of the kitchen

I was left in pure confusion. Everything Silas had just mentioned was things only my mom knew about. Plus it was many years ago, How was Silas able to know all this? Was it Mom who had told him? She wouldn't do such a thing though..then maybe vampires were psychic? Urgh! I needed to know more about these things

I grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and hurried to my room bolting the door shut. I hoped the walls were soundproof because I didn't want to overhear any funny business going on between my brother and his girlfriend

I climbed onto my bed and reached for my bedside drawer, I pulled out a large book with thick pages and a brown cover. It was a book on vampire origins and everything else one needed to know about them. Bill had gifted it to my mom as a moving-in present, he thought she might need it when having to live with two vampires in the same house if only he knew mom didn't read books. Even as a kid, she would make up my bedtime stories of heart, she always found it funny telling me horror stories before bed

I remembered returning the favor once. I told my mom about Terry the ghost, a boy who had died in an accident in the street right across our house. Terry's ghost spent its days roaming our neighbor's house where his family once lived. Mom hadn't been able to sleep alone for weeks, she never told me a horror story ever since. My mom was like me in some ways, she was scared shitless by the paranormal, or religious stuff. This was why it had come as a surprise to me when she had announced her engagement to Bill. I thought to myself that even Mom had grown braver so why couldn't I? Why was I always on the edge about things?

I sighed turning my gaze outside my window. The neighbor's mansion was similar to ours. Although it was a distance away, for some reason I had always had really good eyesight, I was able to make out the shadowy figure through the curtains. Its hands made a waving gesture towards me and I reciprocated the action with a smile. Speaking of the paranormal, Terry wasn't actually made up at all. He was the ghost that lived in my past neighbor's house. The only thing was that Terry must have had an attachment to me rather than his former house, he had also followed me here. Maybe it was because I was the only one that could see him

Terry was nice so I wasn't afraid of him, he was harmless, was Silas also harmless?. Was it that vampires could see ghosts? Was that how he knew I could see ghosts?

I shake my head and turn my gaze back to the book in my hand. I turned to the first page and began reading through
