Chapter 71

"You sure're you good?" Savvy parks in front of my house.

I filled her in on everything at lunch, so she knows what I'm walking into. Sort of. She doesn't know the wrath that my Aunt Milly has or the manipulation she holds over my mother. I probably should've gone back last night, if only to stop whatever crazy ideas she was feeding her sister. Now I have to deal with it.

"I'll be fine."

"You can always call me this time and crash at my place."

"Maybe I'll alternate nights. You. Alex. You. Alex."

Savvy offers a weak smile and then looks past me. She's been picking me up and dropping me off here for a little less than a year. But in all that time she's never known me to be in this much trouble.

"Think you'll be grounded?"

"Oh, much worse."

"What's worse than grounded?"

"I don't know. But I literally ran out of the house. Like, mom was physically running after me. So, whatever the worst possible punishment there is, that's what I'm getting."

"Tell me about it tomorrow?"
