Chapter 17

"Do we knock?" I ask.

"Should we?"

"It's not our house."

Savvy frowns at the front door and the miserable shape it's in. A rusted nail sits below a crusted peephole, and the wood at the base is frayed. The entire house is in need of some serious updates, and somehow, I'm not surprised. A few people laugh on the other side of the door.

"Sean invited us." Savvy turns the knob. "We're welcomed. Come on."

I follow her into the dimply-lit home, stopping when I find a couch to my immediate left. A few people have made themselves comfortable on the black piece - and one another - a cloud of white smoke sitting in the room. Savvy waves it from her face and I do the same.

"Hey, there are people here," a girl says to no one. I'm surprised she knows we're here since she's lying on the couch arm, staring up at the ceiling. When no one does or says anything, one of her arms lifts, a finger pointed at us. "People."

"We go to school with Corey and Alex," Savvy says. "Are they here?"
