"Caroline?" Hayley and Elijah Mikaelson looked at her. "What happened?"
Hayley shook her.
"Care?" She shook her, "What happened?"
She felt as if she was dying. She had felt someone had ripped her heart out.
"He...he is…" She stuttered.
Elijah held her as she swayed softly.
"Hello?" Hayley picked up the phone from the ground. "Who is this?"
She asked.
"Mrs. Mikaelson?" She said, "Come to Route 24….It's an hour away from New Orleans."
Hayley listened quietly.
"You can see him." The woman continued, "They have been taken to a hospital...I'll direct you when you get here."
The phone clicked off.
"Why is she calling you?" Hayley asked her, "Route 24, an hour from New Orleans, who's been taken to the hospital?" She asked many questions in one go.
"Stefan is…" Caroline couldn't get the words out. She was sobbing in controllably. "Dead."
A hoarse whisper escaped her lips.
"He's dead!" She held her head in her hands, "Stefan is gone…"
Elijah Mikaelson held her.
"It's okay...Caroline."
Hope Mikaelson was standing at the door, and Hayley took her away. She gaped at Caroline who was crying loudly.
"Caroline, Listen to me!" Elijah took her hands. "You have to go to Route 24."
Klaus Mikaelson came down, he heard Caroline crying from his room. He quickly came down.
"Elijah, he's dead!" She felt that she was dying. "My best friend is dying...."
"What's happening?" Klaus came inside the kitchen. "What happened, love?" She was crying. It startled him.
He asked.
"Klaus…" Caroline looked at him, she was crying. She felt that she was crying a lot lately. But she had been losing a lot lately too.
"Stefan Salvatore is dead." Elijah told Klaus.
"WHAT?" Klaus jumped.
"We have to go…" Caroline took his hand, "Route 24, Stefan is there…."
She told him,
"Okay, okay….Love!" Klaus held her softly. He wiped the tears off her face, "You have to take a deep breath...Relax."
She nodded, she took a deep breath.
"Okay.." She fiercely wiped her face, "Let's go."
Klaus Mikaelson opened the door for her, and she got in. She held her head.
"I can't believe it, Klaus..!" She felt that she was dying. "Stefan can't be dead."
"Maybe, he isn't." Klaus told her, "He might be alive."
"But, he said..."
"We'll see when they get there." Klaus took her hand, "Why am I being the beacon of hope here?"
He asked.
"Isn't that your job?"
She laughed for a second. But then, she returned to thinking about what had happened to her best friend.
The car stopped on Route 24, she got out quickly. She ran towards the people. Uniformed people.
"Hello…" She went towards a woman. "I am Caroline Forbes-Mikaelson, someone called me…..I'm here for Stefan Salvatore."
She told her.
"Yes…!" The woman looked at her. "They have been taken for an autopsy."
"Autopsy?" Caroline spluttered. "They are not…"
"I am sorry, Mrs. Mikaelson." The woman told her. "Stefan Salvatore, and the woman who was traveling with him." She looked at her. "They died on the spot."
"But what happened?" Caroline asked her. "What happened?"
"Someone bombed the car."
"Bombed?" Caroline looked confused. "But did you find a trace or something?"
Klaus Mikaelson appeared next to her.
"No...No traces were found." The woman looked confused. "It was as if....."
"Magic?" Klaus suggested.
"Yes!" The woman nodded at Klaus. "It was like magic!"
"God Damn Witches!" Klaus and Caroline turned back, and said together.
"Katherine had many enemies…" Caroline told him, "It is possible that Katherine was traced down by her enemies."
"Zach needs more protection now, love!" Klaus told her. "A lot more…"
Caroline nodded,
"I'll call Hayley." Klaus told her. "Ask around for more information!"
Caroline nodded again.
Hayley Marshall received a call from Klaus, he didn't talk much. He just gave instructions, normally, she would be angry at Klaus for bossing her around. But right now was not that time. She had to act, and now. There was a boy whom she had treated as her own for almost three years, who had lost the two most important people in his life.
She had to be there to comfort him, till his doting aunt would return.
Hayley turned off the phone, and woke up Zach. She fondled the hair of the seven year old boy.
"I am so sorry, sweetie." She whispered. He rolled in sleep.
He had just lost his parents. And he didn't know anything.
Freya had set up powerful barriers on the Mikaelson Compound.
Hayley had abandoned her plans of going to the Bayou, now she was going to stay with Hope and Zach.
"Come on, Sweetie!" She shook him softly, "Now, let's get you breakfast!"
He looked up, rubbing his eyes.
"Mom…" He whispered. "Where is my mom?"
"She'll come, sweetie." Hayley felt her eyes become teary.
"Why are you sad?" He looked up.
"I am not sad." Hayley told him. "Sweetie, how about we get you breakfast?"
"Who are you?" He asked.
"I am your father's friend!" Hayley told him. "Now come on, you and Hope can have breakfast together."
"No...My dad's friend is Caroline." He told Hayley, looking at a picture frame which was on the dresser. Hope and Caroline.
"She is…" He picked the frame. "She is my dad's friend."
"She's my friend too." Hayley smiled. "So, what is the stance on breakfast?"
"Can I have pancakes?" He asked. "You know, my dad said that Caroline makes the best pancakes!"
"Really?"
Hayley picked him up, and pushed him towards the bathroom.
"Let's get you changed, and ready!" Hayley smiled. "Okay...Let's go, pancakes!"
Zach smiled at her, and went into the bathroom.
