Memory enhancing pill

The shop was practically like a jeweler store. There were lots of items in the shop that were encased in glass. The shop despite looking small on the outside was no different than an IKEA. It was large for absolutely no reason other than to give fat people who entered the store some exercise. At least that was my theory.

There was a second floor but I didn't bother going there as just the first floor alone blew my mind away. It was all there.

This place was practically no different than the pharaohs treasure chambers. Weapons of different kinds, golden jewellery, minerals still in their ore, high level technology and even bottles of alcohols. This was merely the tip of the iceberg as there were some objects that I had no idea what they even were.

The store assistant as I looked around in fascination. She had somewhat of a smug look on her face. But still though, watching people's reaction to something was pretty fun so I could understand.

"Is there something that you needed today valued customer?" the woman asked me in a sweet voice as she smiled. Immediately I felt the cringe.

Why did I make the store assistant's say such stupid stuff? The cringe was overbearing and I could only apologise to her in my head for creating her in such a way.

"I wanted to know the location of the underground and also a solid memory enhancing pill."

"Would that be all valued customer?" she still had her sweet smile on her face but it felt like she was only doing this for the money and nothing else. She was a fan of not starving.

"Yes." I curtly replied.

A solid memory enhancing pill was exactly as it sounded. It practically enhances my memory to remember one thing precisely. It could be a period of time, the faces of several hundred people or even every single word on a book.

Since I was in my own novel it was only natural of me to try to remember everything so that I could take advantage of everything. It would be stupid of me to just stand around and only taken advantage from the what little I could remember. I could barely remember anything. I only remembered major events and a few other things besides that.

The store assistant quickly returned within a matter of a minute holding a small box. She also held a small piece of paper. "The items you have requested are ready dear customer."

"Thank you."

______________

I left the store through the rear entrance. All customers who entered through the front door must leave through the back door as they did not want there to be more activity going on in front of the store than there already was.

I cursed under my breath and looked at the small amount of money that was left in my envelope. Only 20,000 dollars out of my 72,000 dollars remained. 20,000 dollars was quite a lot but I felt scammed for having to pay 5,000 dollars to know the location of the underground. There was practically a shit ton of people who knew the location of the underground, this shop was just taking advantage of people who did not know.

"At least it's worth the investment." I told myself. 52,000 dollars was just a small amount compared to how much money I could make. I could always act like a creep and touch people's bodies and steal their luck and go gambling.

All though I told myself those lies the hole in my heart that was created due to the loss of my money ached slightly.

"It's currently 3 o'clock right now. I guess I should just rent out a cheap room and organise my memories."

And so I did just that. I booked a room in a motel for only 20 dollars. The room was not that bad at all. It was clean and had a cozy and tranquil atmosphere.

"I guess I should swallow the pill now." I said. I opened the small box and looked inside it. Laying on a velvety cushion was a small blue pill. There was vapor coming out of it as if it shared the same properties as dry ice.

It was a good thing that I had not decided to be a cheap skate and buy a liquid memory enhancing pill. Despite it being called pill it was just a potion. The main difference between the solid form and the liquid was the quality.

The solid pill was so good that you could remember every single second of your life. There were even claims that people could remember their past lives.

The liquid memory enhancing potion was not as powerful. It would only increase your memory to remember events that happened up to three months prior.

The memory enhancing pills and potion where both very valuable and useful in a lot of ways. Can't remember the name of a song you listened to a few days ago, no worries here's a memory pill. Can't study for a test, here's a memory pill to increase your memory so you can pass your test. Don't remember the password to your email, here's a memory pill.

Although memory pills were incredibly useful they had a huge drawback. Of course it did. If something was too good to be true then it definitely was. There was a reason why people did not use these pills a lot. If they were so common and popular then they definitely would be cheaper than 47,000 dollars.

Using the pills to remember everything was not that great. People with Hyperthymesia were easily more prone to depression and anxiety. Also an overloaded stream of memories would disrupt a person's normal day to day activities such as work, exercise and even menial tasks.

Just as much advantages it had did it have disadvantages.

Luckily for me I only needed to remember every single time I read my novel and nothing more so as to not become depressed.

I lay back down on my bed and swallowed the pill.
