“So, you haven’t seen nor heard from him for four years. He wasn’t your Beau anymore. A lot can happen in four years’ time. Let’s go see the baby, then we’ll get something to eat and talk about what you need to know and want to do.”

The hospital nursery, 11:30

Carlo and Jack got suited up in disposable scrubs and went into the neo-natal intensive care unit. A woman met them at the door. “Who are you here to see?”

Jack hesitated, Carlo spoke up, “We’re here to see Baby Girl Stewart, the daughter of Beau James and Meredith Stewart. Both parents are dead. My client, Mr. Romano has custody.”

“She’s over here in an isolette. I can take her out for you. The doctor just gave the order to stop the oxygen. She still has a slight problem sucking properly so she’s being fed on demand. She also has difficulty regulating her body temperature. You can try to feed her if you like. They took out the feeding tube. She’s only three pounds. She has to be four pounds before she can leave.”
