Chapter 49: Life-Changing Presentations

I stare at my reflection outlined on the closed elevator doors. I’m dressed head to toe in the company standard black pencil skirt and the green long sleeve shirt with the plunging neckline. When I first stood in this elevator I was wearing a freaking pirate shirt and slacks from college. How far a few short months have taken me. And how far I have strayed from my path of moving on and starting a new life. No time like the present.

The elevator doors open to a crowded hallway. I hike my laptop bag higher on my shoulder and march through the sea of suits. A bright purple suit shines through the sea of black and I nearly run toward him.

“If it isn’t my favorite working woman,” Jasper beams as I stroll up beside him. Saz stands next to him, the easy smile he had now fading.

“Excuse me,” he mumbles, passing by me without so much as a glance.

Jasper wraps his arm around me and holds me close to his sweaty armpit. “Guess the nerves are starting to get to him.”
