Author : Mortals against gods

Have you ever questioned your existence? maybe we are just characters in a story or frankly just a spark between worlds of fiction. Daniel questioned himself constantly on the truth behind creation, ever since the uncanny scar had been imprinted on his life. Revenge wasn't an option, because the perpetrator behind all of it was far greater than anyone. He was the Author, and Daniel was simply a character within his story. A simple life was all he wanted, but reality had a different path for him. His world would later collide with another, bringing forth an apocalypse filled with suffering. His question had reached an abrupt end, and his morale filled with dents of revenge. He only thought of one thing, and I suppose I would serve it as a question. What if you had to go against the plot? What if you had to battle the creator of your world for peace?. There are many more to it, but I promise. This story answers it all.

Beep!!

The alarm rang with one motive.

"Lunch" A girl shouted from the middle seat of the class to her mates.

The students rose, with others packing their books. Some had brought food from home, and others strutted to nearby stores for snacks.

Daniel sat alone, picked up a bar of wheat biscuit, and shoved a piece into his mouth. He glanced through the class, being wary of the kids.

They looked well-fed and rich to him. He believed their lives were better than his, but envy was not his portion. Although he was once digging for scraps before, his status had risen now.

Daniel shook off his thoughts and proceeded with his snack. He lifted his head, seeing the white sleeves and black trousers of a student.

* Who is this? *

Daniel grasped his pen in anticipation, as he thought his cover had been blown. His thoughts were clouded in darkness. The fangs of survival started to bear again.

" Konichiwa Danieru", a stuttering boy greeted.

Daniel lifted his head further up, seeing the tense boy before him. He dropped his guard for a bit and replied.

"Konichiwa"

Daniel realized he was in Japan and hence his dialogue in English wouldn't work. He thanked the stars for his grandfather's efforts to teach them Japanese.

Hence he communicated in fashion. Although it wasn't as elegant as a pure native, his skills to blend in were nothing to scoff at.

" I'm Tadashi Daijro. However, you can call me Tadashi. ", the boy smiled politely.

"Nice to meet you Tadashi. ", Daniel replied as he returned a warm smile.

Tadashi took a chair and sat by Daniel, explaining things about the school and restricted areas.

Daniel watched as he kept on running his mouth. He looked around for a chance to escape, but there wasn't any for him to use.

So Daniel got locked up in an event he did not wish for. Tadari took up his books and joined Daniel on his desk before lunch was over, becoming his sitting partner.

* I've dealt with training of all kinds, but Tadashi is the next level* Daniel smirked as he thought to himself.

The lessons were almost finished for the day, so the kids began packing. Daniel packed up his books in his bag and thought about staying for a while.

He revised what had been thought, picked up his bag, and strutted out of the class after an hour. Looking through the hallway once more, he thought about how good a day it had been.

Perhaps it was because everything was so calm, yet he wasn't feeling uneasy. So he made haste to the house, with thoughts of ramen in his mind.

* I heard Japanese ramen is the best. The aroma is so good, even though I had eaten it only once from a local restaurant at the base.*

Daniel walked past the second streetlight and noticed Tadashi limping. He guessed it would be from a sprain in the feet, or perhaps another fall from Tadashi's numerous adventures.

Daniel decided to hide and use another route. He had to save himself from the constant bickering Tadashi was known for.

*A few meters left and I would be back at home. Julia promised she would bring in the ramen today.*, Daniel thought.

Although he was happy, he had a constant feeling of regret buried within his heart. He didn't know what it was from, nor who it was about.

However, he ceased contemplating things he could not solve. He focused on the door, rang the bell, and hugged Julia as the door swinger open.

The trio had their supper around 8 pm, with a bowl of ramen on each table. They all discussed their time spent at school with gleaming smiles.

Perhaps this was the life they were meant to live. They had never thought freedom would be this nice. After a couple of bowls being consumed, each proceeded to their beds.

"Goodnight Julia" Daniel sighed softly as he tucked her in bed.

"Goodnight John"

Daniel walked towards his bed with a smile on his face. It had been long since they shared time on their own without the constant feeling of death.

Yet his kind shook, and his horrors ate deep within him. However, he couldn't let that be a barrier between himself and happiness. Daniel shook his head, letting the horrors fade, and closed his eyelids.

He thought about praying, but who should he pray to? Other gods or none. Daniel thought everything had ended before it started, but he did not give up.

There was still a bright day before him. He just begged whoever that listened to their hearts plea, to keep watching over them.

The night was calm, for all mortals had gone back to sleep. A young man clad in a black cloak roamed through the neighborhood.

He walked steadily with pride as if there was none greater than himself. A simple wave of his hand shook the air, flowing in the breeze.

It was the creator. He had grown bored of being still and decided to roam the lands. His eyes were brimming with fire, and his feet were silent.

" The night is beautiful once more"

"Yet you want to destroy that beauty, my king".

The creator turned, looking at nature in the eye, and scoffed at her. He pulled down the hood and brushed through his silver hair, counting the stars as his breath turned cold.

" You know I would still have to destroy you nevertheless, Gaia"

" My lord, is this even necessary? You love your creation as much so why would you put in so much effort to destroy it." Gaia stutters as her eyes tear up.

The creator turned swiftly, his eyes burning wildly with fire and mind as firm as a rock. His smile turned into a grin, gushing the wind towards her.

" I choose to do what I want to do! You do not choose what happens. Only I know what this story needs. Each plot, scenery, and setting are all made for one sole purpose "

" The young child, he's still devoid of what to do. I thought I had given him a stronger character development, yet what is this?"

" He joins meager schemes of humans? Ugh. He is supposed to follow the plot and burn with revenge!"

The wind pressure heightens, pulling Gaia back. She looks at the creator, but all she can see is a blurry cloak. Her head bows in shame and respect as she pleads.

"Your will is always completed at the end. Perhaps even your actions are as you see fit. Both the future and present are within your grasp. What can I say about this, I'm simply the law you placed on creation.", Gaia speaks softly.

The wind pressure falls, giving her enough strength to rise again. The creator looks towards the house of Daniel, smiling as if he's crazy, and turns.

He walks a few steps away from the house as his body starts breaking into smaller fragments of dust.

" It seems you still are fixated on living. After all even this planet is just your will, a part of you. I'm proud I made you, but not them. I can't be proud of them, mongrels who kill and tear up themselves for no reason. It's boring seeing the same event every century. However he, only he, can make me proud."

" The plot has already been set in motion. He will rise as the new author, or die trying. "

Gaia is basically one of the many names nature has. Nature is an object of creation, the will materialised from the Author. Well, the next chapter would say much.
