Chapter 40

Aura was more than a little pissed off at how Laura had been treated, mostly because the idiots who'd done it most likely had no idea what they were doing.

Holy silver was easy to get your hands on, and it melted easily, so they probably thought it would be great to use against their vampire captive, to keep her restrained.

And they were right that holy silver was highly effective against vampires, but what they didn't know is that it was like a poison.

It slowly seeped into their blood and caused their organs to melt.

It was extremely lethal, and their regenerative abilities were useless against holy silver, which was why the metal was spread around by the church in the first place.

Aura needed to remove every last fragment of silver from her body as soon as possible, then let her detox for a few days before doing anything else.

Her organs would be fine, but the silver had left its mark on her body.

There would be no regenerating of limbs, eyes or teeth.

Aura would have to replace them all.

Luckily he already had prosthetics prepared, they'd just need to be adjusted.

He could get some teeth pretty easily, though a nice set might be difficult, so it would be best for him to make replacements himself.

He had another eye of truth spare, and he had the corpse of a god coming in soon, so two eyes were available.

All in all, she wouldn't turn into a project like Fiona.

But Aura was very curious what class Laura had, or if she levelled up her race like when players played monster characters.

She was a vampire, which wasn't a normally playable race.

It was a race that players could play after undergoing monsterification, but very few survived that and those that did never spoke to the rest of the playerbase.

It was one of the mysteries that players had never really solved, but Aura could now get the answer, and his curious nature wouldn't let it go.

However first things first, Aura had a city to destroy.

The family of the marquess whom Laura had killed was rather influential, and when they heard what had happened to the marquess, they were furious.

They hunted the vampire down and tortured it until it was willing to do anything for the pain to stop, so the made the vampire a public use object in the middle of the city plaza.

And once the vampire had been thoroughly and completely broken, they'd tossed it to the slave dealerships, to be sold so cheaply that nobody would buy it.

That punishment was obviously far too cruel for the crime, and Aura needed to blow off some steam, so a quiet vengeance would be perfect here.

Aura would use the same strategies he had before to make money, except this time all at once.

He'd buy all the necessities up, then steal the money back with interest.

But this time, he had no intention of being nice.

He wouldn't sell back their supplies.

And since he had the resources, he'd build a temporary barrier around the city so that nobody could get in or out.

This was a very lethal plan, since the city would almost surely starve before the barrier could be destroyed.

There would no doubt be survivors, but Aura had another plan to make sure it wasn't his targets.

All that Aura needed for his plan to be a success was a time when the marquess's whole family was in the city at the same time.

And such a convenient time was actually available for the next two weeks.

The family was hosting a series of mourning parties for the marquess, and due to that, the whole family would be in town for the next two weeks.

This would also allow Aura to unlock one of the achievements he wanted, so it was like killing three birds with one siege.

The reason that the barriers wouldn't be broken quickly was simply because the city was too close to the center of the country, where nobody expected a siege.

Thus, the ruling family had decided to save money and not prepare for events such as these.
