Chapter 45: Antagonizing

“What does that mean?” Grayson asks.

He watches Arthur's eyes glaze over.

"I think we've talked enough about me, don't you?"

Grayson bites the inside of his cheek, thinking. "You keep saying you're going to save Jude, but I don't understand what from."

Arthur waves his hand dismissively. "I don't imagine you would."

"No, I mean… I get your whole thing. Humans are bad and dangerous. Maybe you think you'll be safer together?" Grayson watches Arthur's face very carefully as he speaks. "It just doesn't seem very well thought out. If there is some sort of…shifter society you would be safer in, I doubt you would look this beat up. So my guess is that you expect Jude to pack up his whole life and run with you."

Arthur flinches ever so slightly.

"How is that safer for him? He has a good life here, he's not in danger. I haven't met a single human here who even slightly dislikes him."

"Stop."
