Prologue

Tears glistened in his mother's eyes as she reached out a trembling hand, gently placing it on Arnold's arm. Her voice filled with sorrow as she continued, I understand the agony of sacrificing your freedom and quest for duty. But our kind has been able to stay in peace with humans and this alliance is essential for the preservation of our people, Do not forget that they are the source of our food, and above that we need unity and strength now more than ever.

Arnold's expression softened slightly, the fire in his eyes dulled by his mother's plea.

He could feel the weight of responsibility pressing upon him, torn between his desires and the burden of responsibilities he carried as a prince. Taking a deep breath, he turned to face his mother, I will do as you ask, for your sake, I will honor this treaty and wed the woman chosen for me. But I cannot promise that my heart will belong to her but I will respect her.

A mixture of relief and sorrow washed over her as she nodded, her voice barely a whisper "Thank you, my son, I know that the sacrifices you make are immense and I pray and hope that one day, fate will be kind and you find that which you seek. With those words, a bittersweet understanding passed between the mother and son.

Lady Sisera wondered why her brother subjected her son to this kind of suffering, he knows that a vampire and a human can not birth a child it is close to impossible. Only if the vampire and humans are mates which is very rare. Perhaps he longs to see her suffering and in pain, perhaps it's to exert revenge on her.
