Chapter 3: Assimilating

"Now is not the time for crying," Eric thought, but looking at the sobbing Vanessa, he just could not bring himself to scold her.

Actually, Eric rather envied Vanessa as she had people who she cared about and also cared for her. Living the life he had, he was a loner and everyday was just him living for himself. Other than indulging in novels and movies, he spent his time training and honing his body, needless to say he did all of his hobbies alone. Even though he had never felt the need for any company, he still envied those that had them. Especially when he saw happy families and how parents would treat their children. This always made him think about how he would have been like if his parents was around this whole time.

Shaking the thought off his head, he decided to think about his next move while looking for more information online. Suddenly a news article was published online which titled "Stay Calm".

The article was posted by the government and stated about the dangerous environment outside and that people should stay indoors and keep their doors locked. Meanwhile, the army would be dispatched to help all survivors soon. Those roaming outside should immediately find shelter, meanwhile a survivor base camp would be soon established in the west side of Singapore, with Clementi MRT as a meet up point for survivors and the army.

Luckily for Eric, the location would only be a 30 minutes drive away from where he was at right now. However, thinking of the situation outside, he suddenly realised how much more troublesome it would be to get there with all thats going on right now.

Suddenly, he heard banging sounds coming from his door. He immediately tensed up as he silently got to his dojo door. He was prepared to attack as soon as he see any movement.

"Help please, me and my family are outside, please help.. help." Eric heard as he got closer to the door. Thinking of whether to help or not, suddenly he heard screams from the outside.

"This is not the time to hesitate." thought Eric as he immediately went out to help the people outside. Immediately he saw a family getting chased by a group of walking zombies.

"This way! Come on in." said Eric as he covered the family as they rushed in to the dojo. Meanwhile, Eric decided to tackle the zombies to gauge their strength.

With just a straight punch followed by a hook combo he managed to knock the zombies head off its body, while he followed up with a roundhouse kick to knock the other zombies head off.

Strange, how does my body feel lighter and stronger than before. As a martial artist who has dedicated himself to training himself, he was well aware of his own body very well and this was strange even for him. He then continued on to take care of the remaining two zombies as he left those thoughts at the back of his head.

After finishing the zombies, he noticed a glimmer coming from the chest of the zombies. It looked like a shiny bead of some sort but Eric could feel energy emanating out from the bead. He then proceeded to retrieve the 4 beads from the zombies before returning back to the dojo.

Even though the fight only lasted a short while, it was still mentally draining for Eric as even he was afraid of what these zombies were capable of, after all he was just human after all and everyone are afraid of what is unknown to them. Even now he was still worried about whether every human in the world would turn into zombies but thinking of all the zombie movie he has watched, he comforted himself thinking that probably the virus would only be infected through the exchange of bodily fluids.
