Chapter 25 - Reporting to Damien

He slapped his head for being stupid and kept all the Orc heads into his rings again before dashing with his life on the line towards the trigger point.

Just as he got into position, he saw the Orcs were already crossed 50m of the last 100m from him.

He made it.

Kiel looked at the first Orc and smiled.

Hesitating no more, he activated the trap.

KA-BOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!

His eardrums burst and Kiel was thrown backward against the mountain wall.

He landed about 50m away and felt the whole mountain shake.

He got up just in time to see the top ledge he had rigged with bombs collapse, bringing with it the Orcs who were running on it.

He could see sheer horror on the faces of the Orcs who were scrambling to hold on to something, anything, only to fail miserably.

The rocks fell on the ledge below, squashing the Orcs below.

Kiel heard a series of prompts

"Orc Hunter Killed, 80 experience gained.

Orc Scout Killed, 55 experience gained.

.

.

Level Up. You are now level 16.

.

.

Orc Hunter Killed, 80 experience gained.

Orc Hunter Killed, 80 experience gained.

.

.

Level Up. You are now level 18."

The system prompt kept going non-stop.

The Orcs that died due to the falling rocks, or those that fell and died. Somehow all of them registered as his kill.

Kiel must have killed over 100 of them.

Orc Hunter Killed, 80 experience gained.

Orc Hunter Killed, 80 experience gained.

.

.

Level Up. You are now level 19."

.

.

Orc Hunter killed, 80 experience gained

.

Elite Orc Hunter killed. 250 experience gained"

He reached level 19 in 1 go. Sick.

AWESOME!!!! I'm GODLIKE!!!! AHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

The noise was unending and did not stop for a long time juxtaposing with the sound of the rock avalanche in the background.

The kills had registered to be done by Kiel and there must be over a hundred of dead orcs this time.

As the massive weight bore on the 2nd ledge from the top, loud cracks boomed and the second ledge collapsed too.

The snowball, no, rockball effect continued all the way down to the foot of the mountain.

Squashing everything in its way, picking up speed and kicking dust that billowed up to the skies.

Accompanied by a cacophony of screams of terror, pain and death throes which were eventually drowned out by the deafening rumbling of rocks.

It took a full 5 minutes for the rocks to settle and even longer for the sound and dust to settle.

The skies rumbled as if responding to the rock avalanche and the dark clouds were accompanied by lightning bolts which threatened to strike at the mountain he was on.

Kiel continued to sit on the edge admiring his work of art.

He alone had changed the topography of the mountain. It was exhilarating.

Then as if weeping the destruction of the mountain, the sky starts to pour heavy rains, washing away all the blood, remains and dust from the mountain wall.

Feeling a pity he could neither collect the heads nor the mana core, Kiel looked on at the survivors and chose to escape quickly.

The mountain pass now completely sealed the pathways between the grassland and the city.

Using up the rest of his stash of Mana Core, Kiel was officially poor.

But it was all worth it, what he gained was worth more even if the cost was tripled.

With the ledge gone, it would take them at least weeks to get over the mountain.

All those dead Orcs would weaken the Orc Horde severely.

Unfortunately, there were survivors, he saw at least 60 Orcs still standing while the rest were moaning on the ground.

Their eyes were filled with so much hatred that Kiel was sure he would be torn to pieces if he ever encountered them.

Orcs were vengeful creatures, they would seek vengeance for any grievances.

Anyways, who cares, Orcs and Humans were incompatible anyway.

Kiel has achieved his objectives and even performs splendidly.

He had now bought the city plenty of time; he just hoped it would be enough.

About an hour after he left, he met with the city scout who had come up to investigate the shaking and rumbling.

"Halt, traveler, did you come from the mountain pass?"

"Yep"

"What happened there?"

"What's your name?"

"Apologies for being rude, my name is Carl."

"Listen Carl, my name is Kiel, not sure if you heard of me but your lord Damien sent me to stop the Orcs, so I did just that."

"Sorry sir, but what exactly did you do?"

"I blew the mountain up."

The scout looked at Kiel in disbelief and rushed up the mountain pass.

Kiel decided to wait for him. He sat, rested, healed and meditated to bring himself back up to top state. An eyewitness would help to do what he needed later in the city.

The scout returned in just under 2 hours. His face was pale and Kiel could tell that he had been thoroughly shaken by the sight.

He could see fear and respect from the eyes of the scout.

It was a foreign feeling for him. People used to look at him with disdain.

In his past life he was always the first to run, the last to fight, never taking up any responsibility and always doing his utmost to avoid them.

Believing that the so-called heroes who sacrificed themselves were fools.

But being on the receiving end of that gaze, all that respect from the scout made him seem to understand a little what those people felt and why they were so motivated. It was gratifying.

Kill shook his head and shrug off useless thoughts

"You saw?"

"Ye ye yes I do…my lord what do we do now?"

"Back to the city and report to your lord what you saw. Nothing more, nothing less"

They rushed back to the city.

Along the way they met the scout leader, John. Carl nervously explained everything that he saw to John.

John looked at both of them flabbergasted. Being an experienced old scout, he fully understood the gravity of the situation.

He ordered Carl to accompany Kiel back to the city and handed them 4 yaks to rush back.

Meanwhile he got 2 other scouts to follow him personally up the mountain pass.

John needed to see for himself what had happened.

The journey took 3 days and as Kiel was approaching the city., he almost couldn't recognise what he saw.

The distance between the tree lines and the city wall was now at least 2 km.

As he approached the city, he saw that the moat was at least 100 meters wide and 10 m deep, flooded and connected to a nearby lake.

The pathway to the city was about 6 m wide and stretched across the lake.

The city walls were now 8m tall and shaped in such a way that the entrance would be a nasty kill zone.

It was lined with defense towers and you could see patrols standing on alert standing guard on the walls.

Gone were the sloppy soldiers.

The gates looked thick and sturdy, they were at least as thick as a man.

All the preparations seemed to go well.

Realistically, he was still unsure if this would be enough.

Regardless, he must try. He knew it would be a tough fight.

He wasn't sure how high their chances of winning were.

Despite all that, he would fight to the end.

If all else fails, he would leave.

Now, he had to report to the City Lord Damien again.

 That.
