Chapter 1 Why not..

Traffic was brutal in the early morning. Some people were hurrying to get to their jobs, and some were trying to get their children to get school on time. Desperation was evident in each and every frustrated honks.

Damon was tapping his finger on his steering wheel. The slow moving traffic and incessant honking from other vehicles were giving him a headache. He was getting late and his cellphone chimed alerting him of new message.

"Where the hell are you? Cap is pissed. Get your ass here ASAP". Jacob a fellow officer's text gave Damon the last push he needed. He instantly cussed under his breath and put his cherry light on the top of his car and blared the siren. He pushed past the thick traffic and once he was in the clear he zoomed into full speed.

Damon reached his destination and gave an once over to the entire area. It was the famous make out spot for teenagers. The whole place was crawling with police officers and forensic personnel.

Damon pushes past the crime scene tape and neard the police officers who were huddled together as if it was a game night.

As soon as he came captain Karen Nelson spotted him and rushed towards him. She was visibly angry and demon thought he is in for lot of nagging. So, he immediately put his both hands up in surrender. " cap, the traffic was a bitch, but I still made it didn't I " .

Captain Karen threw her hand out in frustration and replied " Damon you got an excuse for everything don't you. I told you to get your ass here as soon as possible, and you waltz in here after the entire police department arrived "

Seeing that Damon was in tight spot Jacob rushed over and asked captain to return to the scene. Damon felt relieved from Jecobs help and gave him a knowing smirk. In reply winked at him and started giving report to the captain. This interaction didn't go unnoticed by karen and she muttered " I feel like a babysitter to couple of children. God... I can't wait to be retired."

This made both Jacob and Damon laugh and Jacob replied " come on cap who's gonna take care of us if you retired. You can only get rid of us if we are retired or shot dead." This earned him death glare from the captain and a curt reply. " shut up Jacob, and fill in Damon on the case."

Damon walked towards the crime scene along with Jacob and stopped in his tracks as soon as he saw the scene. It was a gruesome sight and this brought back his memories from the nightmare. At first glance it looked like an animal attack but demon knew at the back of his mind that this case was more than meets the eye.

He woke up from his thoughts as Jacob broke the silence. " Good thing I didn't have my breakfast, otherwise all of you would have had the privilege of seeing me throwing up in the entire crime scene. " and chuckled.

Damon made a face at Jacob's statement and replied. " I will pass. I don't like such privileges man." And he continued. " anyway what happened here? Never seen an animal that liked to eat humans in santa Barbara before. "

Jacob shrugged. " beats me. But it sure has got big appetite judging by the leftovers "

It was true. The only thing left was a cut off left arm and few pieces of flesh strewn here and there. Blood was splattered all over the place. Every police officers were doing their best to avoid looking at such horrific scene.

Captain Karen came up to Damon and asked him " what do you think, Damon? Wanna take lead on this one?"

Demon just shrugged. " why not. Seems like it will be interesting."
