Cempaka tak menyangka kalau pria yang di jodohkan oleh kakaknya itu sudah punya seorang isteri. Dia tak mau bila harus di madu dan menyakiti perasaan isteri pertamanya. Tak terasa Cempaka hidup sendiri sudah tujuh tahun lebih, hampir delapan tahun dia menanti Kardiman agar menandatangani surat perceraian itu. Namun, dia tak kunjung datang. Tak ada kabar beritanya. Beberapa kali Cempaka ke rumah orangtuanya. Namun, tak ada kejelasan sama sekali. Katanya Kardiman tidak pernah pulang-pulang dan tak ada kabar beritanya. Akhirnya Cempaka membiarkan masalah itu mengalir apa adanya. Hingga suatu hari, dia bertemu degan seorang pria yang bernama Angga. Mengaku duda beranak tiga. Sang duda itu nampak tertarik kepadanya, dia mengejar Cempaka dengan berbagai cara. Cempaka mengatakan bahwa dia tidak mau sakit hati lagi. Dia tidak mau gagal lagi. Angga bilang dia tidak akan menyakiti, dan kalau menikah dengan dia pasti tidak akan gagal lagi. Karena diapun merasa tidak enak di sakiti oleh Isterinya. Dan Isterinya itu kabur meninggalkannya, dengan anak ada yang masih kecil. Katanya Isterinya kabur karena dia tidak tahan hidup miskin setelah usahanya bangkrut. Hingga Cempaka pun luluh, dan mau menerima cintanya. Entah apa yang membuat Cempaka tertarik padanya. Padahal, sebelumnya sudah beberapa orang yang mendekatinya, dia selalu menolaknya dengan halus. Pernikahan Cempaka yang keduapun dilangsungkannya dengan sangat sederhana sekali. Hanya nikah SIRI... Karena, pihak kua menolak surat cerai Cempaka yang hanya sehelai kertas segel bermaterai. Dan juga surat cerai Angga pun tak beda jauh. Tanpa kehadiran mertua, iring-iringan seuseurahan hanya tiga orang, itupun dengan sang mempelai pria. Tak beda jauh dengan pernikahan pertamanya. Sangat Menyedihkan... Perih... Ketiga anak tirinya tidak ada yang datang menghadiri. Tanda tanya mulai terselip di dalam hatinya. Saudara dan para Tetangga pun mulai nyinyir dengan berbagai praduga. Setahun kemudian, anak dan mantunya Angga datang berkunjung. Cempaka di marahi habis-habisan, karena Cempaka telah mau dinikahi oleh bapaknya. Yang Isterinya ternyata belum resmi di cerai. Surat cerai yang di bawa oleh Angga ternyata palsu!... Sa'at itu Cempaka tengah hamil muda. Dia bingung!... Apa yang harus dia perbuat. Akhirnya dia menerima apa adanya. Semua kenyataan itu dia simpan bersama Angga. Orangtua Cempaka dan saudaranya tidak ada yang tahu. Cempaka merasa malu dan kasihan kalau kedua Orangtuanya mengetahui apa yang sebenarnya. Setelah anaknya berusia beberapa bulan, Cempaka di ajak ngontrak sebuah kamar kontrakan yang tak jauh dari rumah orangtuanya. Dari kontrakan satu ke kontrakan lainnya. Hingga akhirnya dia kembali lagi ke rumah orangtuanya, setelah kedua Orangtuanya meninggal dunia. Itupun atas paksaan dari saudaranya Cempaka, yang tak tega melihat kehidupan Cempaka yang serba kekurangan di perantauan. Dikira Cempaka benar saja saudaranya itu akan menyayanginya. Namun kenyataannya hatinya semakin terluka oleh sikap saudara-saudaranya itu. Yang menghinanya, mengacuhkannya hanya karena dirinya miskin. Anak semata wayangnya geram setelah tahu bahwa bapaknya punya isteri dua. Tinggal di satu rumah yang hanya di batasi oleh tripleks, tanpa saling tegur sapa. Apalagi setelah Cempaka membongkar perselingkuhan adik iparnya. Bukan terimakasih yang di dapat. Tapi, dia malah di jauhi, di musuhi oleh adiknya sendiri.
