Angel Smile

The background is set in a small, quiet town on the outskirts of Seoul. In this town, people were friendly, except for one particular neighbourhood. In this neighbourhood, everybody lived their lives as if treading on eggshells, all because of one particular household: the Lees. People surnamed Lee were a dime a dozen, but these particular set of Lees were unique. Dysfunctional. The family consisted of four people; the father and breadwinner Lee Do Joon, the delinquent son Lee Hyuk, the top student Lee Gun, and the town's most beautiful girl Lee Yeo Ri. Lee Yeo Ri was regarded as a saving grace, but before anybody knew it, the saving grace was slowly disintegrating from within. Hidden underneath her perfect, angelic smile, was a girl who was slowly being crushed and torn apart. This is her story. — TRIGGER WARNING — This story contains depictions of rape, violence, and other traumatic scenes. — Cover art by Ren (Twitter: @ikinashi_ren) — Please consider commenting or reviewing; any and all feedback are appreciated! :D

Surprise Visit

"Good work."

"Good work."

"See you again when the opportunity comes!"

"Call me to hang out sometimes, okay?"

"Let's work together again next time."

Yeo Ri, Jae Ha, and Min Joon stood in front of the gym where their shoot had just taken place, exchanging farewells.

Although it had only been a short time, they were able to get acquainted with each other. Yeo Ri felt that both of them were nice and friendly, and she was glad that she was able to work with them for her first relatively big gig.

On the other hand, Jae Ha who was used to being in a competitive environment felt like this job was a breath of fresh air. Both of her coworkers were rookies so they looked up to her for advice, which made her somewhat happy. She especially liked Yeo Ri who was sweet and gentle, unlike most girls in the industry. Although they had only met, she felt comfortable being around the younger girl.

"Don't forget to contact me every once in a while, okay?" Jae Ha said as she departed. She was still waving at them even as her car drove away.

"Mm." Yeo Ri replied with a wave. She didn't have many friends so being able to get along with her two coworkers made her happy.

"I'll see you around, Yeo Ri-ah," Min Joon bade her farewell with his usual grin.

"Mm." Yeo Ri smiled back at him.

After seeing off the two, Yeo Ri also got into the company car which Mrs. Choi had prepared for her.

Manager Byun knew that she wanted to go to S University first to see her brother, so he drove her there.

"Joo Hyuk-oppa, you don't have to wait for me. I'll go home with my brother later, so feel free to get off from work," Yeo Ri said just as he pulled into the campus grounds. She wanted to spend some quality time with Gun and did not want to trouble the manager, so she told him to go back first.

"Are you sure?" Manager Byun looked at her sceptically.

"Mm! I'll be fine on my own from here on. You should take the rest of the day off, Oppa. Thank you for your hard work!" She flashed a glitteringly carefree smile at him before scampering out of the car.

"Ah—hey!" Manager Byun called out to her, but she was already too far away. "This girl, really..."  Shaking his head, he sighed helplessly, a wry smile on his face.

After working with her for some time, he understood that although Yeo Ri looked calm and composed on the outside, she was still rather immature. Every once in a while, her childishness would come out, making others feel helpless. Yet, she was so lovable and charming, and he could not bear to scold her. It was no wonder her brother was so protective of her, he thought.

After confirming that the impish young girl was out of his sight, Manager Byun could only do as she said and go home—no, he still needed to get back to the company to report to the President.

Meanwhile, Yeo Ri was out and about, looking for her brother.

It was the first time she came to his school, so she was a little lost.

Thankfully, there were many helpful brothers and sisters around to point her to the right way. Within several minutes, she managed to find the law faculty's building.

Yeo Ri stood at the foot of the staircase outside the building, occasionally craning her head to see if Gun had come out or not.

Yeo Ri knew his schedule by heart, and judging by the time, she barely managed to make it right before his last class ended. According to her calculations, he should be coming out at any minute.

Of course, she could have just called him to make things easier, but she thought that it would not be a surprise anymore if she did. Besides, Yeo Ri did not want to bother him while he was still in class, so she patiently waited outside at a very open spot so Gun could see her instantly.
