He froze.
The look in her eyes made his brain screech to a halt. Her eyes reflected pain, loneliness, sadness, and beneath all that was anger. So much anger, like she was angry with the world.
At that moment, she was like a volcano that was about to erupt. He didn't know what made her so angry. The anger in her eyes sent shivers throughout his whole body.
Why was he scared?
He slowly released the bottle, one finger at a time and when he completely let go, she dragged the bottle to her side and filled her glass with the wine.
This time, he didn't stop her, he only sat there watching her drink till she emptied the entire bottle.
When she was done, Hannah stood up without a word and began walking to the entrance, leaving Axel behind. She didn't know what was wrong with her. She felt so light like the slightest wind would blow her away.
Axel paid at the counter and immediately went after Hannah. He walked behind her, keeping a safe distance between the two of them because the air around her had suddenly changed.
As they walked, Hannah stumbled on a rock but Axel caught her by the shoulder just in time before she could hit the ground. He straightened her up and moved in front of her with his hand still on her shoulders to keep her from falling.
When he saw her face, her eyes were closed like she was asleep. He waved his hand in front of her but she didn't respond so he assumed that she was already sleeping.
Suddenly, Hannah swatted his hand away harshly from her shoulder and Axel almost fell because he was caught unawares. He thought that she was sleeping.
With eyes still closed, Hannah walked away from axel. Surprisingly, her steps were steady despite her being drunk.
"Is she really drunk?" He asked, holding the hand that Hannah had hit.
When Hannah reached the car, she tried opening the door but it didn't budge, so she pulled the handle continuously. That was all Axel needed to know that she was drunk.
He quickly ran to her before she could successfully detach the handle from the door.
He helped her into the car and when she was seated comfortably, he turned around, opened the door, and sat in the driver's seat.
Before turning on the engine, he looked at Hannah whose eyes were still closed. He only knew she was not asleep because she kept clenching and unclenching her fists.
He turned away and started driving. Though it was already late, they would be able to reach their city in time before nightfall.
As it was close to night time, the road was deserted, there were barely any movements on the road and there was an eerie silence on that path but Axel ignored it since it was the same route they took when coming.
"It looks like it's going to rain". Axel said as he heard a rumble in the clouds. The silent path now echoed with the howl of the wind. The strong gust of wind blew across the trees on either side of the road making them sway in whatever direction the wind wanted.
Suddenly, he felt a presence behind the trees and he knew better than to ignore it. He stopped the car and looked at Hannah and he noticed that her fists were now clenched tightly.
She had felt the presence too! They were surrounded!
Axel ran his hand through his hair in frustration making his hair disheveled. Why now of all times?
Giving Hannah one last look, he came down from the car and went straight into the forest. He was sure that those people came for him. They would always come for him!
That was why he left the car. He wasn't sure if Hannah would be able to fight especially now that she was drunk and he didn't want her to get hurt because of him.
When he reached the middle of the forest, he felt their presence. With how tense the air was, he realized that they were not regular assassins, these assassins were stronger.
'Swoosh'.
A knife flew towards him from behind a tree but luckily, he moved fast so the knife missed him. More knives kept coming from behind the trees and he evaded each one of them.
"That darned bastard!" Axel cursed, using a tree as a shield to prevent the knives from getting to him. The knives finally stopped and the assassins came out from behind the trees, each of them holding a knife in their right hand.
Axel clenched his fists tightly. He knew he would not be able to fight them off all on his own, and there was no time to call for backup. To make matters worse, he had no weapon with him.
Looking sideways, he tried to find a way of escape but there was none as the assassins had encircled him and there was no guarantee that these were the only ones in the forest.
"Shit"! He cursed again as another knife flew towards him. He caught the knife just in time before it reached him and without hesitation, he threw the knife back, hitting the assassin right on his forehead.
He didn't even have time to breathe as another assassin ran towards him with a knife in hand, aiming for Axel's neck.
Axel didn't run, he stood there and when the assassin reached him, Axel caught the hand that held the knife and swiftly moved behind the assassin before hitting him hard on the nape making the assassin fall to the ground unconscious.
Another assassin ran towards him. This time, axel also ran to the assassin and when the assassin tried to stab him, he bent down just in time, picking a knife from the ground and stabbing the assassin in the leg in the process before straightening up and running the knife through the assassin's throat.
He turned around, waiting for the next assassin to attack him, but none of them did. Looking closely, he noticed that they were not even looking at him, they were looking behind him.
Axel looked back and his eyes widened when he saw Hannah standing behind him.
