50,000 years ago, Hell was destroyed because of too much Foul from the resentment of the souls that later turned to Soul Eaters and devoured everything in their wake, leaving nothing of Hell. The gods above in Heaven, in order to take care of the newly-died souls, created the Afterlife Department comprised of grim reapers. Huo Ling was delivering food that day when he met Yi Bing and the guy gave him a warning. When he arrived to the customer's unit, he was killed. Huo Ling: you set up a death flag for me! Mankind claimed victory against the most fearsome enemy that they have ever face – zombies. The humans have been able to save the world. The aftermath, though, were disorder as the arrogant ability users were unwilling to lower their head to the government, especially those criminals who wanted to be liberated from their sentence, particularly the ones with death sentence.
After the humans defeated the zombies, a battle between humans against their fellow humans ensued. Such a saddening thing. Fortunately, this grueling battle didn't last long, since the ability users noticed that their abilities are slowly disappearing. Luo Ming and Luo Ye said after that what was borrowed will be returned. It was not long after that they left that we realized what he meant.
