Castle pulled his car off of the highway and onto the dirt road. "Is that your dad's cabin up ahead?"
Beckett nodded. "It's not like your place in the Hamptons, but I had a lot of good memories here."
"It's perfect. I love it already."
When he stopped in front of the cabin, Kate didn't open the door and put her hand on his arm. "Castle, you should have been here before. I should have asked you to come up after I was shot. I wish I had. I wish I had asked you…"
"Beckett, we're here now. That's all that matters. Let's concentrate on the present and the future. Not the past. Okay?"
She smiled at him. "Thanks, but I know I hurt you."
He grinned at her. "So we can spend some time with you making me feel better."
They unloaded their car, bringing in their suitcases and the groceries they'd picked up. When they'd finished, Kate took him for a walk. "There's a lake just over the hill that I used to swim in."
"Kate Beckett in a bikini? I wish I'd been here."
"You'll have to be satisfied with seeing me in nothing. I was pretty young when we started coming here, so I wore one piece suits and I never wore a bikini when my parents were around. After I lost my mom, I stopped coming here."
Castle stopped her and put his arms around her. He leaned in and kissed her. She pulled herself back. "Do you smell something?"
"I bathed and I used a deodorant. It isn't me." He said.
"No, someone is barbecuing. There's someone camping around here."
They walked over the hill and saw four young men standing around a small fire with a pan of something being cooked. Rick and Kate walked towards them.
"Good afternoon." She said. "My family owns this land. I don't mind you camping here, but I do want you to be careful with the fire. You could start a forest fire."
"We're cool, pretty mama." Said one. Kate noticed that the young men were rather oddly dressed for campers. Rather oddly dressed for anything. The one who spoke was wearing a pink sport coat, white slacks and he had a carnation in his lapel. Two wore heavy boots, jeans, and black leather jackets. The fourth one wore khakis with a striped shirt with the collar pulled up in back. He also wore sunglasses.
"Just be careful, okay?" Castle said.
"It's cool, big daddy."
As they walked away the two bikers called after them. "See you later, alligator." Followed by, "After while, crocodile."
While Castle busied himself making lunch, Kate thought about the young men. The more she thought, the more she worried.
Sitting across from Kate, Castle noticed she was hardly eating. "Is there something wrong with the food?"
"There's something wrong with those campers." She said, finally.
"Yeah. Talk about a lack of fashion sense. They'll never get dates dressed like that."
"Did you see a car or any kind of vehicle?"
He thought. "No. So how did they get here?"
"And all they had was a frying pan. No tent, no sleeping bags, no nothing. We need to go talk to them again. There's something wrong with them."
Kate got her Glock, and she and Rick headed back to the campsite. They found the men just sitting around.
"How did you get here?" Kate demanded. "And why don't you have any camping gear? What are you doing here?"
The images of the four men flickered and disappeared. In their place were four wolf like beings with huge fangs and razor sharp claws. "We're cool, baby. We ain't trying to bug you."
Kate reached for her gun, but a large, furry hand took it from her.
"You're aliens?" Castle said.
"Well….yes."
"You've come here to our planet to conquer it and make us all slaves….or food?" Castle said.
"No way, Jose."
Castle smiled. "You've come from a great intergalactic federation to teach us a better way and end wars and poverty."
"Be serious, dude. You're seriously wiggy."
"Then why are you here?" Kate demanded.
"For the music."
"The music?" Rick and Kate repeated together.
The beings nodded and began to sing.
"Rock 'n roll is here to stay"It will never die"It was meant to be that way"Though I don't know why"I don't care what people say"Rock 'n roll is here to stay.
"You're rock musicians?" Rick said with disbelief.
"Our parents hate rock and roll, but we love it."
"We're being invaded by an alien boy band?" Kate said, shaking her head.
"We're not invading. We live fifty two light years away and we just started getting rock and roll music from your radios and TV. Do you think we could get on Bandstand?"
Another one spoke up. "We need to buy albums. All the cool dudes. Elvis, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Duane Eddy, the Big Bopper, Eddy Cochran and…..everyone. We need all of their latest albums."
Another one spoke up. "And we need some Fender Stratocasters, a bass Fender, some drums and maybe a keyboard." He smiled. "They call me the Killer."
"Because you kill people?" Castle asked.
"Yuck!" The teenage alien said." Because I'm a huge fan of the Killer, Jerry Lee Lewis. I tried to build my own piano, but it sounds lousy."
Kate smiled. "Guys, I'm afraid most of those people are dead and those that are alive aren't recording anymore. Well, except for Jerry Lee Lewis."
"What?" They cried, heartbroken. "We came all this way for nothing?"
"No, there are some huge record stores in Manhattan and places you can buy musical instruments. We're here for the weekend, but if you'd like. We can buy everything for you."
"Manhattan? That's only a few seconds away in our shuttle."
"Guys, a space shuttle is…" Castle stopped as a cherry red 1958 Cadillac convertible suddenly appeared. Castle and Beckett stared. "Want to go for a ride, Beckett?"
"Do you guys have money?" The always practical Beckett said.
"We have gold." One of the aliens dug into his pockets and pulled out a bar of gold. "Is this enough?"
"Tell, you what, guys. I'll pay."
In seconds they were in a parking lot across from a record store. The guys resumed their human disguises, which were just holograms. Kate gave them some fashion advice so they wouldn't attract too much attention.
Much later they came back to the car/shuttle with more than fifty years' worth of music, plus films and even video games. A second stop at a musical instrument store got them enough instruments for the best band on their entire planet.
Kate and Rick stood on the porch of her dad's cabin and waved good bye to their new friends as they left for their ship, which was on Earth's moon.
"No one would ever believe this, you know." Kate said.
"That's okay, as long as you believe it."
Sometime later, they came back from the precinct to Rick's loft and found a small package at his door.
"There's no stamps, or any logo from any delivery company. No address either." Rick said as he opened it. "It's a DVD."
They put the DVD on his player and saw four sharply dressed, wolf like aliens with guitars, drums and keyboards at the ready.
"This one goes out to our friends, Rick and Kate."
"I say hello Katie B. (goodbye heart)"Sweet Katie B. I'm so in love with you"I knew Katie B. we'd never part"So hello Katie B. (goodbye heart)"You passed me by one sunny day"Flashed those big brown eyes my way"Ooh, I wanted you forever more"Hey, I'm not one that get's around"Swear my feet stuck to the ground"And though I never did see you no more."
"I'm famous on another planet?" Kate asked. "What do you think of Hello, Katie B?"
"It's got a great beat and she's easy to dance with. I give her a ten."
