Way back then, Lolo Sibal was a survivor of the 1918-1920 Spanish flu pandemic and who was accidentally trapped , along with the Captain for twenty years in the legendary cave of Kabang. Interestingly, the Captain left to him the wealth for Magee's education and returned to the United States. In September, 1941 Magee has heard from a UP friend that the the war had to rise on December of the same year so she returned home empty-handed and stayed with her family. Without them knowing, her father, the Captain who survived has returned to the Philippines for another military mission on the same month of September, 1941 and assigned the 25 year old 1Lt. George of the infantry and the in-charge of the platoons in combat to take care of his daughter in whatever means. One day, during the early weeks of the opponents' occupation, one of its officials named Hakanori proposed to Magee through her mother and agreed for the wedding. Magee was against to it despite her multiple attempts to escape. Accidentally, the night before her wedding, she fell into the abyss nearby their house and found herself the next day that she was with the Filipino guerrillas together with the American and German soldiers. She noticed the Captain personally but only in a short encounter and there - he was gone. In the fight for freedom under the foreign occupation, 1Lt. George used a different tactic and studied very well the terrains and natural habitat of the place. He led the disarming of any opponents patrolling and collected all their weapons and uniforms, worn by Filipino guerrillas in disguising. He also applied sharpened bagacays in holes, pulleys, and ropes in all sorts, throwing rocks, powdered some poisonous plants and made antidotes, used herbs and root crops for their survival and even dug some exit points and tunnels all over just to reach the cave of Kabang. Alongside with Magee at war where he only started as his guardian through the Captain's request had smoothly twisted and subtly turned out that he became madly in love with her. One day...

Couple's Reconciliation

"Hi Mag! here's your breadfruit and sayote leaves, Albrecht was not able to return here yesterday because we're all busy for the training, all's tired. Its just this morning when Sibaya decided to climb the breadfruit tree. Likewise, Albrecht told me to extend his apology. I don't have any idea if what happened but, hmm...Albrecht is Albrecht." Then Baldur smiled.

"Where's George?"

" He left last night, around 6:30 pm. Is he not in the wooden house?" She was worryingly asking.

" No. I thought he's here. What happened? Did you two fight?"

"Ah, okay. Don't answer me. If you want to gather peace of mind around, I'll just go."

" Baldur." She sounded lonesomely.

" Hmm, okay. I'll listen." The older brother offered his listening ears while aiding her toward the granite couch.

" I'm sensitive on relationship and partnership issues because...maybe of Ina's traumatic experience I had witnessed over her man. I saw her cried then when he comes - she often smiles and the happiest. When he leaves, she kept on crying and then he comes back and she's the happiest again and he leaves and she's once again the loneliest. When Lolo Sibal comforts him she throw his hand and summoned him away. It was a terrible life seeing how loving and separation goes together. Those times, I haven't seen who that man she was with; if her man comes Lolo Sibal keeps me out to play with my chicks and other pets at the orchard. So I eventually didn't see Ina Lolita's partner, its only after reading the journal that I knew its George's father - its uncle Chuck. I grew up...seeing how Ina suffered. Those memories made me learned a little on how to preserve my decisions and crosscheck, in a way that...I wouldn't regret. In fact, getting married is already a primary proof for this serious engagement since its wartime, but still, I am also doing things on its natural setup. Its a way to put all things better, I guess. But I'm afraid Baldur." She explained.

He paused for a while and sighed.

"Just keep doing if what makes you happy. Anyway, he'll the exact man who can wait. But supposed he's hiding or keeping himself away, just respect his decision too. You know, he's not just a man but your husband. So he finds comfortable that being an absentee sometimes could help preserve your decisions. But all these things wouldn't be forever. Just keep your guards on if you're not yet ready and still setting things on its way." Then Baldur smiled and tapped her shoulder.

" I missed him already." She noisily whispered it.

" Hmm...I can make him come if you want." Baldur suggested.

" Would that be possible." She raised her voice and smiled at him.

" Haha...why not?" He was just sitting down the whole night outside that granite door." Then Baldur pointed his finger to the door going down the tunnel. Then Magee covered her mouth and laughed controllably.

" You lied." She smilingly whispered at him.

" I lied sometimes in order to find out if who's telling the truth. I need to protect my sister and if that lieutenant hurt her. I'll gonna punch and throw him, if possible." He kiddingly smirked.

"But anyway, he said he just sat down there this morning and planning some things for the attack. So when you said early on that he left here last night and I ironically found him sitting right there, embracing his cold handgun, most probably, he had so many plans designed the whole night for the attack, hmm, what an interesting plan that caused him those green eyebags." Baldur inquisitively looked at her.

" Hmm, just prepare the table and I'll get out now. I'll call him to get inside and you share the breakfast together. Be sure to prepare a coffee for him, I'm sure he's chilling right now. An entire night of thinking might dehydrate him. Alright, anything else? I better go now." He smiled.

" Thank you Baldur."

Series of seconds have passed sparingly then George entered silently without looking at her and sat in front of the kitchen - watching the daisy flowers in a vase at the center table.

Magee then put some water in a pot, waited a little and when it finally boiled, she filled in the mug with hot water. While the silence still stepped in, she poured a little amount of coffee and sugar then stirred it to satisfy him with its aroma. It wasn't enough and she stayed beside him and spoke.

" You must be very tired. You drink your coffee now while its still warm, your tummy needs it. Hmm, and George, I'm very sorry - for what I have said." She looked at him while clasping tight his chillin' left hand and put it on her warm face, closed her eyes and was teary eyed. George was deafeningly speechless and carefully touched her face with his shyly thumb, wiping her tears.

" I'm sorry too." George reacted and was just very immobile on his seat.

When suddenly someone rushed to open the granite door and its Albrecht who had totally broke the silence.

"Tadang! Surprise I've got a lot of boiled breadnut!" Then he was shocked looking at George still looking at her with eyes closed so he just placed the bucket full of boiled breadnut (kamansi) on the floor and rushed like lightning in going out.

Magee opened her eyes and smiled while George was laughing and bowed his head.

" Albrecht was someone I can't almost imagine. He's always in a wrong timing, but anyway, I'll take that bribed boiled breadnut (kamansi). Its I guess his gift of reconciliation for you after being mad at him yesterday." George stood up and transfered some of it in a granite bowl, got back to his seat and carefully pushed the bowl in front of her, smiling.

" Its for you." George blurted.

" Thanks, your coffee - have a sip of it while its still warm." She smirked while removing the breadnut's shell and put it on his palm. He ate it then she added more till they also have enjoyed eating the breadfruit (kolo) that baldur brought to them.
