Chapter 45 - Ferocious Beast? Demonic Soldier!!

The amalgamation of noises from man and beast filled the night as scarlet lightning flashed above this Shura purgatory.

The sounds of thunder roared as the noises within the forest were drowned in its tide...

tit...tat.. tit..tat.tit.tat

The sounds of rain buffeted LingYue's ears as it fell amongst the black and eerie trees, raindrops seemingly like black transparent gems fell relentlessly as they charged towards the forest floor.

Standing amongst the downpour, LingYue stared down at what was once his opponent, his skull shattered and his blood and brains mixing within the puddles that were congregating to witness the passing of who was once known as Shang Tian.

Xiao LingYue's mind was in retrospect of their battle as his heart inwardly shuddered at how close the battle was.

Too many factors were at play, placing him in a passive position throughout the fight, which could have easily been his last.

All he was able to amount to was to keeping a stalemate and not allowing himself to be completely suppressed by Shang Tian.

Xiao LingYue slowly kneeled while rummaging through the soaked and bloodied robes of Shang Tian, slowly stashing his storage pouch within his own robes...

He looked towards the sky as his hair stuck to his face while the rain fell onto his face and a strange feeling of melancholy washed over him as the lightning flashed sporadically, illuminating him and his surroundings...

His blood was currently at the 'Blood Qi Like Meandering River' stage which was a watershed level amongst body tempering cultivators.

This realm should have given him an absolute advantage amongst close-ranged fighting but due to his lower-tiered martial techniques, his only advantage within this trial was almost completely negated.

Had it not been for Shang Tians' agitation and impatience, he wouldn't have gotten ahold of the flaw he had revealed and been able to land a finishing blow.

If it wasn't for that, he would have probably been the one laying on the forest floor amongst the bloodied mulch because, in a fight between cultivators, a single flaw would be the fine line which could cause you to never be able to see another sunrise ever again...

He soon rose to his feet, his eyes narrowing amongst the rain but little did he know his mental state was subtly changing, becoming colder, and more ruthless due to this fight as he realized he wasn't ruthless enough and not deadly enough...

A baleful aura full of murderous air began to manifest around his body and with every step forward his baleful aura rose a notch as he grasped the polearm and retrieved it out of the mud.

His hand grasped that cold, wet spear as he raised the blade slightly above him as a slight glint passed across the edge of the blade.

His eyebrows jumped as he noticed 3 totemic inscriptions on the spearhead as it was illuminated under the lightning, as water trickled down from its sharpened edge.

Treasured weapons were normally graded and divided into five categories which corresponded to the number of identical inscriptions they had.

A Low tiered Treasured Weapon was inscribed with 1 to 4 identical totemic inscriptions and was normally used by those below the Dantian Opening stage.

LingYue was a bit surprised as he was inwardly thankful that there was a restriction on Qi since it gave him a fighting chance, had it not been in effect, the activation of these inscriptions alone would have placed him in a very dire situation.

As he walked forth he walked forwards through the forest, his feet trudging through the sludge of blood and mud, snarls could be heard coming from the fog surrounding him.

Soon the shadows of beasts could be seen, as their eyes lit up amongst the darkened backdrop, as they slowly trudged into view.

Beast after beast walked out, seemingly coming in all shapes and sizes as their howls and screams filled the area.

His heart began to pump as his gaze focused, no longer did he smile but a stern and serious expression showed upon his face.

His conviction was strong as a ruthless glint passed his eyes as he readied the spear; he was surrounded but he wasn't fearful.

His eyes shone amidst the darkness as he made the first move, diving into the beast tide as they charged forth!

"Die!"

LingYue's arm held the spear as it turned into a streak of white light as it pierced a golden pythons head which had lunged forwards, its blood splattering over his drenched body, further whipping the nearby ferocious beast into a heightened frenzy!

LingYue suddenly spun as he swung his fist in reverse parrying the claw of a stone bear which had lunged towards him as it tried to crush his skull!

The spear stabbed outwards as it pierced the bear's throat, while an iron leopard bit into his shoulder!

Blood showered the area as he fought, his fingers digging into the leopard's eyes as he tore the sockets before biting out its throat as it roared in pain!

If he wanted to survive, he needed to be ruthless, to his enemies and even more ruthless to himself!!

As the fight went on it slowly began more and more tragic as his wounds continued to accumulate, the spear nearby as it was thrown, piercing a Stellar Ape through its skull to a tree.

With only his fist and his teeth, he had somehow survived til the end of the beast tide as he traipsed over to the fallen corpses...

Crack!

Crunch!

Crack!

Xiao LingYue ate limb after limb, organ after organ, forcibly trying to mend his broken body but to no avail...

Suddenly his heart shuddered uncontrollably as he felt something powerful watching him from the shadows amongst the fog...

His body froze as he slowly began to turn all the while hearing...

" Something...smells.....Gooooodddd"
