The bright sunny weather in Novoland was like a welcomed dream after two months plus gloomy climate.
For Ameera coming back to a place where she was abused by her stepmother was like rekindling old wounds.
She can't run forever but she was not ready just yet, the deities, however, have chosen what suits them not her now she will also do whatever benefits her.
Ameera looks at Nadira sleeping opposite her in the carriage, she feels anger and hates piling up in her trying to choke her.
She reminds herself that Nadira and her siblings were not aware of the things their mother has done to her but it doesn't help how she was feeling.
Silent tears leaks from her eyes and she turns her face outside the carriage to let her tears flow not wanting to wake Nadira.
She doesn't want to look weak in her eyes or make her feel uncomfortable in her presence so she tries to contain her emotional outburst.
The harder she attempts to conceal how she was feeling, the more memories flood her head.
Losing her dad and being made a maid at such a young age of five. Even though Jamal's mansion had never lacked for servants or money.
Her stepmother derived pleasure in her suffering and she made sure her children were never around to witness her handwork.
****Fifteen years ago, ****
"You worthless piece of work, now that your father and miserable mother are dead, you will know what true hell is like,"
Ameera looks at Keya with potent hate in her eyes and she told her without mincing words.
"You are the miserable one moúmia (mummy) Keya"
Keya out of anger and in-depth hate for Ameera gives her the most resounding slap that a girl of her age is not supposed to experience.
She marred the side of her face which she has slapped and she was pleased with herself when she saw the ugly bruise budding.
That should shut this stupid wench up she mused. She looks at Ameera expecting to see fear in her eyes and a docile look but what she sees almost made her flip.
"You can slap me all you want yet you can never shut me up, my mother was never miserable and you can never be half of who my mother was," she said spitefully.
"You know, I was planning on showing you mercy" she eyed her. "You don't deserve mercy not deserve, you are not worthy of it," she said kicking Ameera brutally on her chest.
"I will sell you off as a slave and do you know where you will go, my dear?" She asked with an evil grin on her lips.
"You will be going to my people's side, where the likes of you who are seen as slaves are not treated as human," She announced triumphantly waiting for at least a twitching move on her fragile body to show her fear yet, she sees nothing.
All she sees is a child with pure hateful animosity shooting at her now she knows why her people always say the eyes never lie.
This girl is something else, thank God her father made her, her guardian until she is of age and she is never going to be of age.
She cackled wickedly, she is going to be joining her parents soon because such a beauty who has never worked in her life won't last for a week in Kafata.
She is going to make sure her brother sends her to a place where she will be overworked, the quicker she dies... The better for her.
Ameera who is on the ground bearing the searing pains inflicted on her watched the woman who her late father married.
She saw as her eyes changed and could read the murderous intent in her eyes. What shame! she contemplated.
I guess this is how I am going to die. She doesn't mind. After, losing her parents Ameera lost her faith in life.
First, it was her beloved mother now it is her Dad, tears threatened to spill from her eyes but she held them in.
She won't give this heartless witch the delight of seeing her cry so she bit her lips drawing blood to hold in her tears.
"You should thank your father for me when you meet him on the other side okay kóri (daughter)" she called her sweetly.
"moúmia Keya (mummy) if I come out alive and I return to Novoland, I swear on all the deities of this land, I will feed you everything you have fed me," she uttered clenching her jaws.
"kóri(daughter) that day will never come because you can never leave Kafata alive," she laughed evilly.
"I pity your children for having someone like you as a mother" she grinned mischievously with her bruised face knowing she has nailed her with her words.
Keya kicked her viciously knocking her head against the wall of servants' quarters that she makes Ameera stay in whenever her children went out.
The kick to her head whack consciousness out of her. Keya left her there bleeding her brains out.
Why have I never noticed how saucy this spoilt brat was? Good riddance for an evil spirit like her she thought.
****Present Day****
Nadira woke up and tapped her sister to inform her that they have arrived. She thought her Ameera was sleeping.
The ride for the past three days has been a bumpy one. Nadira is happy she can finally move her legs.
She had not stepped down from the carriage even though she had been uncomfortable been cramped inside.
She didn't want to annoy her sister because she has seen her countenance changing and she didn't want to make her angrier.
"adelfí (sister) we are here," Nadira said attempting to suppress her excitement.
Nadira watched her sister and she saw the hateful glint enter her eyes.
"I won't be returning to the mansion with you Nadira," she said turning to face her.
"Why Sister?" Nadira asked surprised.
"I want to take over my mother's clan as I should have if your mother has not done what she did," she said lowering her eyes.
"adelfí (sister) I forgot to notify you about Jemila your cousin. She is now the Phoenix queen," Nadira wriggled her fingers as she explained.
"I don't care who is now in charge or not, it is my birthright and I will take it as I will take everything your mom has taken from me and I intend to not show her mercy yet wherever I see you, my heart is full with hatred and I fear you may weaken my heart against your mom," She said looking at her intensively.
"Whatever you decide to do with my mother adelfí(sister) I will understand and I will always support you. I do not know about my siblings but I will always support you and I want you to understand that," she said.
She looks away overwhelmed by her words and shocked she is willing to sacrifice her evil mother but then again that's the little girl she grew up with.
Strong-willed and kindhearted. She is genuinely happy to have her also willing to stand by her side.
"I can not say that I trust you but thank you," she struggled out the words.
Thank you is like a big ordeal for her, she has never needed anyone or rather she always rejected the help of people who offer it to her since childhood.
"You are welcome adelfí(sister) welcome back home and wherever you go, I will go with you," Nadira smiled brightly at her.
The carriage rolled to a stop at the entrance of the palace. Adeel rushes down to open the carriage for the crown prince.
"Thank you, Adeel," prince Rasheed said.
Adeel bows to him. Prince Rasheed moves to the Carriage convening Ameera and her sister. He opens the carriage door for her which Adeel was supposed to do.
Ameera looks at the stretched hand that the prince held towards her and she was contemplating whether to ignore his outstretched hands then she thought, the public embarrassment will be too much.
After all, they were now in his kingdom so she decided not to belittle him before his subjects since people were already gathering around them.
She smoothes the green skirt that Nadira had given to her when they stopped at an inn to rest along the way.
She smoothes invincible rumbles to hide her nervousness telling herself, she is not scared or worried. She is only trying to look good.
Indeed she is beautiful, with her black waist-length hair flowing down her back and her smooth flawless olive skin shining.
They have never lost their glow, one would think she has been applying oils to make them keep their shine like the rich heiresses in Novoland.
Ameera has never applied anything to her skin. She just bathes with the scenting bar soap that she picked herself.
She had liked the Lily bar soap and now she smells like one. She took the hands of the crown prince and came down from the carriage.
Out of courtesy, the crown prince also held his hand to Nadira even though he did rather not but he doesn't know if it will displease Ameera if she ignores her sister, so he held his for her to help her climb down from the carriage.
"Thank you, your highness," Nadira said.
The prince nods at her removing his hand from her as if he had been burnt. He has always hated it when people touched him.
He turns towards Ameera who just standing there looking at the gigantic Persian palace which has always visited as a child.
"Welcome home, little moon," The crown prince said standing beside her.
Ameera nods at him and graced him with a smile.
