Humble

The crisp autumn air blew through the opened window sending a shiver down Aylin's back. She puts on her coat and grabs her medicine bag to make her rounds for the day.

Her first stop is the kind grandma, Mrs. Baros. She stops by her cottage located at the edge of the village to refill her medicine for the week.

"Good morning Mrs. Baros!" Aylin exclaimed

"Good morning to you, too." Mrs. Baros returned.

"I have the refills of the medicine for your cough and aches and pain." Aylin said.

She digs around in her bag and pulls out the medicine for Mrs. Baros. She hands over the medicine and points to each one as she explains.

"This one is for your aches and pains, and this one is for your cough."

Mrs. Baros grabs the medicine from Aylin. And thanks her.

"This came at the right time. My Back was starting to get worse. I'm not sure what I would do without you or your medicine. Ever since you came to this little village in the middle of the forest, you have been nothing but a godsend helping the village people keep their good health. Especially me, I don't know where I would be if you didn't nurse me back to health when you first arrived." Mrs Baros said to Aylin.

"You give me too much credit, I only did the right thing in the moment." Aylin said with a smile of embarrassment from the compliment.

"You are too humble. Take credit where credit is due." Mrs. Boris told Aylin.

"Alright, I'll try to." Aylin said with embarrassment as she took a step. "Well I'm off to my other stops. Have a good rest of your day Mrs. Baros."

"You have a good rest of your day too, dear" Mrs Baros returned.

As she spoke, Aylin turned away and started walking to her next stop. She made her twelve other stops swiftly and was finished by noon. Since Aylin had skipped breakfast she was quite hungry and decided to stop at the local cafe to grab some lunch. There she bought a salami sandwich with cheese. She sat outside at one of the cafe tables and watched the street. It was nearly empty except for a few passing by. The plague had left the once lively streets now barren. Aylin missed the liveliness of the community. It gave joy and motivation to keep working hard for the people, but now that it is gone she feels a sense of loneliness.

As she is almost finished with her sandwich she sees a man on horseback decked out in shining armor and a sword. Astonished by the sight, Aylin finishes her sandwich and stands up. The man dismounts his horse and walks over to Aylin. She takes notice of him. He stands tall with dark but soft features. His mid length black hair flies back with the autumn wind and his icy blues eyes seem to pierce right through her.

The man made eye contact with Aylin and waved to her to say "Good Afternoon miss, I am Calisto the son of Lord Grey. I am looking for Sir Ellias Stamos, the leader of the village."

Aylin stared at him for a second before responding. "I know Sir Ellias Stamos. He lives right down this way. I can show you the way if you don't mind."

"Yes, do show the way I need to speak with him urgently." Calisto ordered.

Aylin began to walk and Calisto walked alongside her. She looked up at Calisto and informed him, "Jusr so you are aware, Sir Eillias's son was gravely ill last night. He was able to make a recovery, but the family may not be in the best position to receive you right now."

"I'm sure they will be able to receive me right now. I come of great importance to them and their village. Why do you make judgments of their condition?" Calisto said with an arrogant tone.

"I am the doctor of this village. I was one with the family last and helped heal their son." Aylin said sternly with offense.

Aylin stopped walking, and turned to face towards a home.

"This is where Sir Ellias lives." Aylin said as she pointed at the house.

"Well this is it. Smaller than I expected of a former great knight." Calisto said and started walking away.

"Have a good day Calisto." Aylin said

Calisto stopped and turned around to say, "And you … and what is your name miss?"

She responded coldly "Aylin"

"And you as well, Aylin. Have a good day." Calisto said with a smirk, then turned away and walked up to the house.

Humble is what she thought. That man needs to learn to be less arrogant and more humble. Aylin left feeling infuriated by the encounter, and made her way back to her little cottage.
