Broken Part

Elara ate like a barbarian. She did not care if she did not like a monique. After all, she was not a moniker if her husband had sold her to these thugs. Right?

The bread was so stale and hard that even maids would not enjoy it. But after getting tormented again and again, she found the bread no less than the most delicious meal one could have.

She gulped the soup in one sip and only then did she take a breath. The cheese was the best thing on the small tray.

"Did you like it?" he asked with amusement on his face. She looked at him with a blank face as if she did not understand her words.

"What was there to like in the stale bread? And the soup. I am sure someone had spat in it to vile me or just to take out his rage." she shrugged, making him blink.

He had not ordered anyone to do that and he had no idea that the bread was stale.
