Ginna picked him up with a laugh. “I can see that. Cupcakes or cookies?”
“Cake,” he told her, nodding emphatically. “Big one.”
“It’s almost ready if you’d like some,” Bessie said, smiling at them.
“Please, Mommy.” Theo gave Ginna a pleading look.
“Mrs. Smith!” The shout was followed by the twins racing down the stairs to stand in front of her. “He’s been good,” Johnny told her very seriously.
“Well, he has good examples in the two of you,” Ginna replied just as seriously before looking back at Bessie. “If you’re really sure, then yes, I’d love something homemade and sweet. Restaurant food gets boring after a while.”
Bessie grinned. “I can make you a sandwich too, if you’re hungry. Fatten you up a bit.”
“That’s the last thing I need,” Ginna said with a laugh as she joined her on the porch. Theo wriggled and she let him down, smiling when he raced back into the house with the twins right behind him. “Did he behave?”
“Oh yes. He’s a good boy. You’ve raised his well.”
