The Truth

-----Yui's POV

Once Kaede left for downstairs, I made my way to Olivia's room to help her unpack her stuff that I held in the bag Kaede gave me.

Olivia: "Thank you again for helping me, lady Ellen."

I'd given her the bag to pull out all the things she needed as I watch her place some of her stuff on the table, and putting some clothes in the empty drawers.

Yui: "Again with that, huh?"

Olivia: "Hmm?"

Yui: "It's Yui while we're here right? You don't need to be formal anymore."

There was more to it than just me helping her unpack, but I also wanted to tackle this problem properly, and also bring up my relationship with Kaede. If we'll be here for over 2 weeks, then I think It'll be a good idea for all of us if she knew, that way no misunderstanding may come up.

Olivia: "I know you said that, but. It's hard to be casual with someone of such a high status like you my lady. To suddenly be casual with you, it's like we're on equal standing, it's uncomfortable."

Yui: "You know I wasn't always in this position you know."

Olivia: "What?"

Ah- My response just flowed right out of my mouth like it was the most natural thing to do. I'm not good like Kaede at thinking up lies on the spot, but maybe I can use this difference in status to maybe persuade her?

Yui: "Yes. Olivia, your family serves my family correct?"

Olivia: "Yes, with pride! I'm thankful to be under your protection."

Yui: "Then if I say for you to keep a secret, even from my parents, you'd do it for me?"

Olivia: "Yes! But it might be difficult with you're parents, but I can be certain about everyone else! Even the king and queen!"

Yui: "Okay, good enough."

One day, I'll have to come clean to my parents anyway, so I think this will do just fine.

Yui: "Olivia. When I said that I wasn't always in this position. I meant that I came from a different world, before this."

Olivia: "Huh?"

Yui: "As in, I died in my previous life and was reborn here."

Olivia: "What?! But that's-"

Yui: "Ridiculous? I know, but I swear it's the truth. I swear on my parents' life."

I'm meaning both my current parents, but also my parents back in my old world; my true parents. Sure I love my mom in this world, and my father seems to have finally recognized me, but they'll always be my 'second' parents.

Olivia: "So... you're not kidding?"

Yui: "Mmm. Even ask Kaede."

Olivia: "So Kaede knows as well?"

Ah, perfect timing! This is where I say it right?

Yui: "Actually, she also came from the same world as me. We reunited recently around the time when she enrolled in the academy. So you can ask her as well to confirm if you like."

Olivia: "Okay wait, hold on... So, you're saying you lived a whole other life before this one? Same goes with Kaede?"

Yui: "Correct."

Olivia: "Then how do you still have memories?"

Yeah, that I have no answer to. Maybe Mai might have an answer to it, but I'll save that till later.

Yui: "I don't know, it just happened."

Olivia: "I- I see... Then may I ask what your life was like before this?"

Thank you Olivia, you're making this easy for me.

Yui: "Well, firstly, magic didn't exist in that world. And my life would be the equivalent of a commoner's in this world."

She looked on at me, patiently waiting for me to continue the story.

Yui: "But in terms of my life, I lived a happy life, filled with many fond memories which I still think back on even now after over 15 years. I died when I was 18."

Olivia: "What? That's so young! Wait, were you maybe like an animal? Don't humans live like 60 to 70 years?"

Yui: "Pfft, No. My previous life wasn't an animal. I was human."

Olivia: "Wait, then-"

Yui: "I was murdered."

Olivia: "..."

Dark turn? I know. I should've warned her that this was a bit depressing, sorry Olivia.

Olivia: "...I'm sorry."

Yui: "No no! It's fine~ I should've warned you, I should be the one who's sorry, haha."

I try to laugh around it in hopes to brighten up Olivia's mood somewhat.

Olivia: "May I ask how you..."

Yui: "With a knife. Some psycho stabbed me with a knife in my own home."

Olivia: "What? Why would they do that to you?"

Yui: "I guess out of love? You see-"

Ah here I go! This is the perfect transition to finally talk about my relationship with Kaede. I take a moment to swallow any excess saliva before continuing what I'm about to say.

Yui: "He was in love with this girl. But this girl so happened to be my girlfriend-"

Olivia: "What! You were a boy in your previous life?"

Yui: "Nope. I was a girl too."

Olivia: "Oh... huh?"

Yui: "This girl... her name was Kaede."

Olivia: "..."

Yui: "Yes, the same Kaede that's with us now."

Her expression turned into a look of confusion to now a mix between confusion and surprise as her eyes slowly widen at my words.

Oliva: "Wait! so-"

Yui: "Kaede and I were a couple back then. And we managed to find each other after 15 long years."

She had now covered her mouth with her hands in suspense as if saying "No way!" It made me smile as I finish the story.

Yui: "That's why I like to be casual with people since, well... I still see myself as Yui from back in my old world."

Oliva: "AH! So Yui was your old name?"

Yui: "Yes."

Olivia: "Wow... Who else knows about all this?"

Yui: "Kaede of course, but Luna knows as well. OH and my tutor Alice, but I never went into much detail with her."

I chose to leave out Mai as it may spark something unwanted. I feel it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to Mai.

Yui: "So could you keep all this a secret from everyone?"

Olivia: "I will!"

Yui: "And also, can you understand why I'd like you to be more casual with me?"

Olivia: "Yes. It makes sense with everything you said. But it'll be hard to change..."

Yui: "Well you don't need to change. Just if we're alone or around Kaede, you can be casual with me. At the academy you can be formal, how about that?"

Olivia: "Deal!"

Phew, thank god this went without a hitch. Telling her all that stuff was a lot easier than the time with Luna. This might make for good training for when it finally comes the time for when I have to tell my parents.

Olivia: "Wait, question!"

Yui: "Hmm?"

Olivia: "How did Kaede die then?"

...

Huh? Did she ever tell me? Now that I think about it, I don't think she did. I heard from Mai that she was also reincarnated, but she never elaborated did she. What would be a good time to bring it up?

Yui: "...I'll leave that for Kaede to tell you."

-----Kaede's POV

Fleur: "Okay, so to summarize... You're Kaede's spirit, and half vampires are considered an abomination even among monsters?"

Mai: "Correct, at least from what I know back when the last one was born."

Mai had just finished summarizing the half vampire thing to Fleur. She didn't talk about anything else like the truth behind magic but instead focused on the current topic... All while being completely naked still. I did toss some clothes from my bag to her, but she didn't put any of them on as they remained at her feet.

Fleur: "I see... Kaede, you sure have an interesting familiar, haha. Did you learn this from the academy?"

Kaede: "Ah- yes."

Fleur: "She's very pretty, she looks like you in a way haha."

Mai: "Thank you."

Sure we had the same hair color, but our facial structure is a bit different still and her hair... there's so much of it compared to mine. But every time I look her in the eyes, I feel jealousy towards her, as if she stole my eyes from me. Then again, Yui seems to like my eyes I have now quite a bit, maybe having these eyes of mine isn't all too bad.

Kaede: "Anyway~ So before in our conversation, does Faye also know about my guild card being forged?"

Mai had finally decided to jump off from the table, looking around the room as I continue our conversation from earlier.

Fleur: "Well~ Not at first, but after a week since I did it, I felt too guilty hiding something from her. So yes I did tell her about it. She was shocked at first but quickly accepted it."

So both of them care for me that much to risk their lives for me...

Kaede: "In that case. I'll tell her what I really am, and- on the subject of being your adoptive daughter, I accept!"

Well I guess Fleur and Faye are sister's so they both can't be my mom, right? So maybe Faye could be my aunt instead?

Fleur: "Mhmm! Welcome to the family Kaede~ Not like you weren't a part of it anyways, haha."

We share a smile with one another, we didn't need to say anything as the look on our faces answered everything; that we're family.
