A Mix of Magic and Science

Join the recently isekai'd protagonist, Iskandor (yes I'm bad with names)... He was a bright man before his death, knew more about the sciences than his peers yet still retained a knack for picking up on fantasy, be it mythology or the occult... He was a man of two worlds, the worlds of Magic and Science...

Meeting the Sister and Blacksmith

"This is an unfamiliar ceiling..." was the first thing out of his mouth as he woke up in an unfamiliar place, in an unfamiliar body. 'I hear birds and I feel natural sunlight... That's strange, birds should be all but extinct and the sun shouldn't be able to peirce the smog covering most of the planet... There's also usage of wood, something very rare... Last thing I remember I was working on a new clean generator...' he thought as he rose out of bed, the sheets were made of a mid grade cotton. 'Woven by hand... can't be Earth as manual labor has reduced over 50% in the last decade alone, and many industries outright becoming irrelevant with technology doing everthing...' The man gets out of bed and looks outside his window. "Holy shit... I've been Isekai'd." He mutters.

'First things first I need to get my bearings, normally in novels the protagonist is flooded with memories of the body' and wouldn't you know it, he fell to his knees as a sharp sensation jabbed at his head from all over.

An important looking figure bowed down to what appeared to be an heir to the throne

"Your majesty, the Head mage detected a strange influx of magic power coming from Rosemary Village."

"Interesting, bring me my carriage at once." the Prince commanded.

"So this body also belonged to an Iskandor, he was orphaned at a young age and has a sister... I didn't expect this, her name is Lar? As much as I want to criticize the name I don't have much room now do I..." Iskandor mumbles whilst collecting his thoughts. "This world has magic, not much is known in this remote part of the kingdom however, but it seems the technology is lacking... That means I have a chance to build a name for myself..." he continued "Lar should be back from the tavern soon, it would be nice if this good for nothing host actually had a job and didn't die from... wait, how did he die?" Iskandor ponders this question, there is not a single blemish on his body, a body that he only just now noticed was reptilian, or rather draconic "How did I miss this... how did I not notice I'm a dragon... this is epic!" he exclaimed while looking at his shocking 6' 4" hight, decent build that was neither scrawny nor fat and quite handsome for a pile of black scales. Soon after this realization the door to the small home was opened and in came a 5' 8" humanoid dragon, with deep blue scales, Iskandor immediately recognized her as his new sister.

"Hey big bro, did you finally decide to get a job?" she asks in a sweet yet bored voice.

"Why yes actually, I'm likely going to search for an opening as an artisan of sorts." He replied to the shock of Lar.

"I hear the blacksmith is in need of an extra set of hands, perhaps you could do that and gain some muscle, I'm sure Serena would like that~" she teased.

Iskandor immediately recognized her as a Yvonne, a close neighbor, with Iskandor's high mental fortitude he was able to sift through the memories and comb out important details, such as Serena was the crush of the former Iskandor, and rightly so.

"She probably would, but that doesn't mean you have permission to mess with my love life!" Iskandor scolded, it actually wasn't too out of character, only this time it wasn't out of embarrassment like the him before, but because he wasn't sure if anything is worth pursuing just yet. Afterall he only arrived to this world not even an hour ago, he still had to find out who killed him, figure out how to live in this new world and what goals he should have.

"I'll see if I'm a fitting apprentice at the blacksmith." Iskandor says, looking forward to the craft, "don't wait for me for dinner." he calls out, already out the door.

'If I get used to this body and learn some blacksmithing techniques I may be able to start building a steam engine or something...'

"Iskandor! I haven't seen you for a while." the blacksmith calls out.

"Hey Smith, I heard you need an apprentice, do I qualify?" he asks.

"forge me an iron dagger, a hide helmet and once you sharpen and reinforce those you got the job!" Smith says excitedly.

"Sure, got the materials?" Iskandor asks.

After some small talk Iskandor hastily picks up the materials and gets to work, heating the Iron and hammering it flat, sharpening the iron bar after pulling a tang out of the bar for the leather hande and so on...

"Sould be a good dagger, not the best but it could be far worse..." Iskandor says while thrusting the dagger into the table.

"Now time for the helmet, make some cuts, rivet the pieces..." He mutters while working.

"Iskandor, you have talent, most people would require instructions but you used your own wits to forge a dagger and helmet, keep them!" Smith exclaims, shocked by this young prodigy.

"So, what's on the agenda for today? Shall we forge weapons and armor for travelers or citizens who need them, forge some hinges for broken doors, or see what we can come up with?" Iskandor asks.

"Do you have something in mind?" Smith asks, with his interest piqued.

"Perhaps, it would be hard to construct however, so perhaps I forge something to help us forge? Or at least attempt to."

"Knock yourself out, I'm paying you on product, not hours so if you make something good you might get the coin your sister makes in a day."

"Sure thing Boss!"

And after a long day of smithing Iskandor makes a very crude roller, so now pipes can finally be made.

"Whatcha got there?" Smith asks.

"Heat up the metal sheet and place it in the slot and turn the crank, you'll see, but let me modify it slightly, I just had a thought." he says while placing a sharp knife at an angle on the output side.

"Here comes the steel!" Smith nearly shouts, placing it in the slot and turning the crank, producing a curved steel sheet and a short wire.

"Didn't quite work with the modification, but the main part did it's job, we have a curved sheet of steel, if we change the distance between the rods we can bend thicker pieces of metal and charge how much it bends...'

Updated a bit to make the initial reaction a bit more natural and fix up a little Grammer I caught. I'll go through the next few chapters to refresh myself as I'm working on the next chap today, hopefully will be out today or tomorrow
