First Day

A few weeks passed and it was time for my first day at the academy. I wipe up early that morning and made my breakfast. I sat and thought about what the day would be like. I played around with my phone and saw Emily was up. I messaged her and she answered. I asked if she wanted to be on a call and she agreed. "Hi, Kankuro. How are you?" "I'm excited and a bit nervous." "Same tbh. If they test us off the bat, we'll have to put all of our hard work to use. "Yup. I'd like to show off what I can do but I'm sure they are going to be lots of stronger fighters than me."

  "You're one of the strongest people I know. You came fourth in the test to get to New Horizon's in the first place." "That's true. I did pretty well in the exams but that might change. Depending on how hard the others trained since then. Plus, we have Oda Nakiri in our class. I know I'll have to fight him but to be honest, I'm scared to do so." "That's fair since he took down the leader of Trinity effortlessly. I don't wanna fight him either but we have to so we can become stronger." "You're right. Plus, we're strong. I think we can put up a fight against him."

  "Whether we can or not, I know I'll continue fighting till I die. I won't stay down no matter what." "You're so cool Emily." "Thanks, I try my best. Well, it's time for me to get ready for school. See you there." "Bye Emily." I sat on my bed staring at my ceiling picturing what school would be like. "I made it into the school I always wanted to go to but what now.  What must I do to go further? Is training going to be enough? Is there more I can do? Can I really become the greatest hero? Welp, there is only one way to find out."

  I got up, bathed, dressed, and headed out to school. My father gave me a hug. "Thanks for helping me motivate myself. I owe a lot to you and I will repay you with training. Don't worry.  The first day might be hard but you'll get used to it soon. Good luck my son." "Thanks, dad. I'll make sure to clock in on that promise of training me. Bye, dad." He waved me farewell as I pressed forward to get to school. I met Blake and Emily on the way. It was a silent walk as Blake had his headphones in and I was too scared to bother him.

  We arrived at school a while after walking but was still fairly early. We entered the classroom and saw the classroom pretty empty. The only person there was a clear skin fellow with long, straight black hair. He introduced himself. He was Todd Jackson. I am the one who came third in the entrance exams. He seemed to be a nice responsible student. We all decided to keep our powers a secret until class started. It was more fun that way. Eventually, students poured in until all ten students were in the classroom. Of course, the last of them was Oda. He seemed so uninterested in school.

  The teacher soon came and introduced himself to the class. "My name is Shinzo Harrison. My ability allows me to create objects and the cooldown time is half the time taken to create the objects. Come to the front of the class and introduce yourself." He sat in his chair and awaited the introductions. It was a very exciting display of powers until Oda introduced himself lastly. "My name is Oda Nakiri and I'm keeping my powers a secret for now since you all are not worthy of knowing." "Shouldn't there be a rule saying you have to tell the group your powers!" Todd shouted.

  "Don't shout and there is a rule but we've seen how talented he is firsthand. This will be an exception." Todd definitely wasn't happy about what just occurred. Oda sat down after teasing Todd for his intrusion. I was getting more nervous by the second. I didn't know how I would come up with a strategy to beat Oda if I didn't even know what his power was. Emily saw and she touched my shoulder and gave me a look to soothe my nerves. I was grateful because if she didn't help me out, I would have probably freaked out and that wouldn't have made a good impression on the rest of the class. I regained my composure and stayed silent.

  "Put on your P.E equipment and follow me. We'll be doing field assessments soon." We were being tested in speed, agility, and strength. The speed portion was a four-hundred-meter race. There were two sets of five racing. Oda came first in each of the tests. What a shocker right? Meh, I'm just kidding. It was totally expected. I did decently well on each of the tests so I was glad. Emily came second in the speed portion and Blake came third. The agility portion was a game of dodgeball. The teacher created gauntlets so he can throw faster. My hypermobility came in handy plus I gained a new power which was foresight. I did well and came second which Blake was mad about.

  The strength portion was a punch machine. I came third in that department because of my psychic cloaking ability. Blake didn't do well in that portion but he excelled in the race. I was happy about the results but Oda just was outstanding. I thought at first maybe the win was a fluke but he was extremely talented. The gap between me and him was an extreme one. Unfortunately, I was nowhere close to figuring out exactly what his ability or abilities were but I knew he was mega strong. I became excited because my next goal was clear. I had to push myself to limits so I can one day beat Oda.

  "The fun isn't over just yet. There will be a combat test to see where you all stand against each other. There will be a random slot machine that will decide who you'll be facing. That will begin no…" "Sir, may I please have a request?" Todd interrupted. "What is it, Mr. Jackson?" "I would like to fight Oda sir." "And why is that?" "He is a disrespectful slacker and I'd like to put him in his place." "Wait a minute," Blake said, "if you want to challenge Oda, you'll have to go through me first." "Todd stared at Blake viscously and Blake did the same to Todd.
