Chapter 16: Limits (1)

I felt pressure and pain within seconds of Misaki calling out to me to watch out. It finally broke away from blocking and made time for an attack towards me.

It didn't take long to realize I was soaring through the air again but this time I couldn't feel anything. Any pain that should've been there was gone but nothing was really coming to mind.

"Kenji." A familiar voice begins to echo as it calls out.

No, that couldn't be her voice could it?

"Kenji don't give up. You still have to fight." The voice began to get closer.

That's definitely Ayumi's voice but I can't see her anywhere around me so why am I hearing her? I can't use any more power so how am I supposed to keep fighting this thing.

Crash!! Thud!! Kenji's body hit against the concrete building before hitting the ground.

Blood was starting to go down my face and was clouding my sight but I could just barely make out the creature ahead. It looked like a lot of its skin had come off. Almost like some sort of armor being broken.

I could hear footsteps getting closer to me but it wasn't the creature this time.

"Kenji are you still breathing?" Katsuro asks while just barely catching his breath.

I'm surprised he's okay after everything that happened back there. He was wounded just as badly as me but yet he's here checking on me.

How the hell is he just an A rank?

I couldn't speak right now but he saw me looking his direction so that should be enough for the time being.

"Good enough. Me and the other squad will handle this." Katsuro says while forcing himself to stand up.

Blood was down his face and all over his clothes but yet he was standing before me. I thought I was at my limit but he's definitely got to be at his.

I watched as he took a deep breath in the out before gripping his staff. It seems he is going to be using it to fight again but I didn't see any changes with it before.

"We've arrived and are ready to assist. Let's take care of this Mitho." Captain Hirashumi says over the comms.

The entire atmosphere felt like it changed around me as I watched the captain walk towards the enemy. He was starting to give off a completely different aura from before.

This must be the power he's capable of using as well. I've got no clue what kind of power people can use or what the tools are that they use for the weapons.

I've got quite a bit of stuff that I need to learn about the Mitho and the weaponry that's crafted from them.

Crash!! Lightning began to strike more and more but this time it started to hit closer to the Mitho.

I'm starting to think he has some sort of powers related to the manipulation of weather or something. Strong power.

The battle began once again as Kenji sat back against the wall watching the other squad assist Katsuro. Smoke began to form all around the battlefield as each hit connected with the Mitho.

Hearing all the fighting was different but I don't think it's something I'll ever have an issue being around. I want to be part of these fights as much as possible if it brings me closer to finding her.

Ayumi didn't deserve to be taken that day and I know I would've did something if I could.

The battlefield was unable to be seen from the amount of power and destruction that came from the people fighting. This was how it was supposed to be with people who were strong.

SS ranks may be a rare case but it doesn't mean that they don't exist within the ranks of Angelic Core already.

I could only wonder what ranks the squad members are of the team that showed up to assist. If we're the main attack force why wouldn't we have more high ranked soldiers?

"The enemy ahead won't die here. He definitely got the results he's looking for." Mina speaks up from out of nowhere.

The annoying goddess returns and of course I can't speak right now because of these damn injuries. The feeling is all too familiar to me.

Years ago when I was attacked by those creatures at the estates I could remember my ability to speak being gone. Pain, numbness, laying in blood, it was all the same feelings.

"Ah right. You'll be okay but just know you need to keep training if you want to use the system I gave you." Mina says with a serious tone behind her voice.

She wasn't wrong about that since I couldn't really use too much power from the system without my body slowly giving up. It also took a lot out of me to heal before using it to fight against this thing.

Mitho, creature, humanoid being, or whatever the hell is best to call it.

Boooom!!!! Another explosion goes off during the battle ahead but yet nothing is seen flying out from the smoke.

I'd love to see how the tech made from these things work since it sounds like a lot of shit is happening up there. Maybe I can push my limits a bit further.

I felt the pain jolt back into my legs as I began to stand up once more. It was getting progressively worse and worse with each passing second as I stood up.

"I can't say I'm surprised since you resemble them quite a bit." Mina speaks up while standing next to me.

She's going on about something that I don't even know a thing about but I know one thing, and that's me wanting to join back in on the fight.
