Chapter 38 Sneaking Out

I felt numb today which is good I guess. I had a follow up with the police today and turns out I was the only one she was doing that to. They said she admitted to everything and had apologized. I was happy I wouldn't have to sit in another court room but, I still feel broken. Like a part of me has been ripped out and stomped on. I want to throw up all the time and I'm back to flinching at everything. I hate this.

Amy's POV

I got Scarlett up for school and she was sluggish which I'm usually not worried about, but after yesterday I don't want to set her off. Plus she met with the cops again and even though it was good news I could tell the trauma was resurfacing.

"Hey Scar, what do you want for breakfast?" Avery asked her standing in the door frame.

"An orange I guess"

"We have the small ones, is that ok?"

"Yeah"

Then Avery left and went off to the kitchen. Scarlett got dressed and was sitting on the floor gathering her things for school. She shouldn't have to go after all this but she's missed a lot of school and if she misses anymore cps will be notified.

I sat down in front of her because I was already ready to go.

"Do you want me to walk with you to your classes?"

"No, Luna already does that"

"Anything I can do to make you more comfortable going?"

"Not really"

I looked at her and sighed. I noticed she had a piece of lint in her hair and reflexively went to grab it and she flinched. Her whole body kind of jumped back a little when I put my hand up.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. You have lint in your hair"

She looked sad or maybe mad that she had that reaction to me.

"I'm sorry"

"You don't need to apologize. Now come on, we'll be late for school"

We grabbed our things and I grabbed Scars orange because I know she was leaving it purposefully. In the car I gave it to her and she sighed but took it.

When we got to school Luna was waiting on the steps as wells as Matt and Stacy.

Scarlett's POV

I saw Matt and Stacy waiting at the stairs for me with Luna. I walked up to them both and hugged them tight.

"Good morning to you too Scar" Stacy said

"Good morning babe" Matt said just as confused.

"I'm glad you guys are here"

"We're glad your here as well"

We all walked in and went to our lockers to get our stuff for our first class. I still feel jumpy. I haven't flinched at Matt or Stacy yet so that's good.

Before class, I went to the bathroom to take a breath. I needed to get out the hallways and into a more quiet place.

I walked in and sat on the floor against the wall. Luna was in there with me and I knew she'd say something. I just wanted quiet though.

"You okay?" She asked

"I feel numb, so that's pretty nice"

"Anything I can do?"

"Be quiet"

She stopped talking and I sat there until the bell rung. Then I got up and went to my first class.

The days over now and Stacy just got picked up by her mom. So now it's me Matt, Amy, and Luna.

Me and Matt were sitting together while Amy and Luna stood near by.

"I wanna be alone with you. Just for awhile"

"I feel the same way"

"We could run"

"Ha! Your sister and Luna would catch us in a heartbeat"

"Your right" I said smiling

We sat for a minute in silence before I decided to speak.

"What time do you have to get home?"

"Anytime, my moms out with her new boyfriend"

"Is the house empty?"

"Yeah, why?" He asked curiously

"Will it be empty tonight?"

"Yeah, they took a trip to New York. They'll be gone all week"

"Perfect. Keep your back door unlocked, I'll try and come over later tonight"

"What happens if you get caught?" He asked worried

"My sisters will throw a fit and lecture me. But I don't plan on getting caught"

Just then Avery pulled into the school parking lot and I kissed Matt goodbye before walking away.

Currently he's the only thing that I care about. I feel numb still but when I talk to him my body gets it's feeling back and I feel good. He's a really good listener and I know he cares. I can't wait to see him tonight.

The car ride was pretty silent besides the radio playing. I couldn't help but smile as I thought about tonight. Amy noticed and pointed it out.

"What's got you smiling so much?"

"Matt" I said. If I lie they'll know, so I just won't tell the full truth.

"What about him?"

"You wouldn't understand"

"Ouch"

"He just makes me feel good all around"

"Un huh"

I ignored her and we kept driving. When we got into the house I said hi to Jamie who was sitting in the couch on his phone and went straight to my room.

I took out my homework and began doing it.

Amy's POV

Scarlett seems overly joyous right now. She was smiling in the car about Matt and now she's actually doing her homework. Whatever it is, I'm happy she doing alright.

4:00 AM

Scarlett's POV

It's 4 in the morning and everyone is fast asleep. I put pillows in the place of my body and quietly put my shoes on and grab my phone and head out our room. Thank god Amy didn't wake up. I grab a key and sneak out the front door.

I left the apartment lobby and headed towards Matt's house.

When I got there the back door was unlocked and I sneaked in. I saw Matt sitting on the couch watching tv and snuck up on him. I rested my chin on his head and he turned around to see me.

"You actually made it out!" He said excitedly

"Damn right. We've got...3 hours"

"Well let's get started then"

I grabbed a bottle of wine and two wine glasses and after a few drinks we started making out and clothes started coming off.

We made our way to his bedroom and onto the bed where we stay for 2 hours.

It was a great night and I needed the break. I could tell Matt needed it as well and we laid there sweaty for a good 30 minutes before I had to get up and dressed. I hopped in the shower and started putting my clothes on.

"You have to leave already?" He said whimpering

"Yeah, I don't feel like hearing my sisters mouths. But I had fun"

"Me too. It's been awhile"

"It has"

"You want me to walk you home?"

"You know what, sure"

Then he got up and we were both out the door in about 5 minutes. Matt only lives about 20 minutes away from me walking so we talked and walked back to the apartment.

Outside the lobby doors me and Matt kissed before he waved me goodbye.

"Love you! See you at school!" He said walking off

"Love you too! Cya later"

I walked back into the apartment and headed up in the elevator. When I got to the apartment door I used the key and quietly opened it to see everyone sitting in the kitchen looking worried as hell. Damn, I almost got away with it.

"Where were you?!?" Avery said running up to me followed by Amy and Jamie.

"What the hell Scarlett!?! We thought you ran away. We were texting and calling you non stop" Amy said

"Where hell were you?!?" Jamie said

I looked at my phone to see tons of missed calls and texts starting at 5 am.

"I went out for a walk"

"Why is your hair wet?" Avery said

"It's sweat"

"It smells like soap"

I pushed past them since we were all still standing at the door.

"Ok fine. You caught me, I went to the gym"

"The gym? Really?" Amy said

"Yeah. They have really nice smelling shampoo by the way"

"Scarlett you can't just leave the house in the middle of the night" Avery said angrily

"Jeez I'm sorry. I didn't think you guys would flip your shit because of it"

"Why did you decide to go to the gym at 5 in the morning? It doesn't even up till 6"

"I wanted to get there early"

"Is this because we've been making you eat more?"

"No. I just wanted to work out"

"Aren't you too young to go to the gym?"

"I know a guy"

"Of course you do. You know what, give me your phone"

"Why?"

"Your grounded"

I busted out laughing. That one was funny. I'm grounded.

"I'm serious"

Amy and Jamie were just watching at this point.

"I'm already grounded. I don't go anywhere besides school and when I do ask to go out one of you have to some with me. I already have someone following me around at school and you've started checking my texts religiously, which is weird as fuck because I should at least a little bit of privacy. Taking my phone away? Really? The only social interaction I have outside of school that's not with any of you. Your not scary or threatening in any way"

She looked at lot angrier now but I honestly don't really care. Seeing Matt was worth it.

"Give me your phone"

I handed her my phone, it doesn't matter much anyway. I think my nonchalant attitude made it worse.

"Do you even care?? We were worried sick. We literally just talked about this yesterday when you ran away"

I felt like I needed to throw up. I'm hungover. Great. This'll be fun to try and explain away.

"I need to use the bathroom" I said as I started walking to the bathroom.

"Dont just walk away, we're still talking!"

I puked in the toilet and washed my face. Avery watched the entire time and I think she knew I had been drinking.

"Are you hungover?" She said with her eyebrows raised.

"Ok let me explain"

"Are you fucking kidding me Scarlett?!"

"This guy had a bottle of vodka and was drinking it outside the gym so I asked for a few swigs and he gave me the rest of it"

"Scarlett I can not begin to describe how disappointed I am in you."

"I'm sorry I just needed so air"

I stepped out the bathroom and walked towards the medicine cabinet.

"Can you unlock this? I need to take my meds and I need an ibuprofen"

She unlocked it and I took everything I needed to take and sat on a barstool.

"I'm sorry I snuck out. I just needed a break from being around all of you"

"That doesn't mean go out and get drunk. That guy could've had anything in that bottle and you just drank it. Do you have any idea how dangerous that is?"

"Yeah yeah I know"

She sighed heavily before telling me to get ready for school.

I grabbed my stuff and she continued to lecture me the entire ride to school.

When we got there she spoke to Luna, probably telling her to keep a close eye on me and then she drive to work.

Matt was sitting on the stairs waiting for me.

"I got busted. But they don't know I was with you"

"I knew we shouldn't have-

I held is face and looked into his eyes. "No, we needed this. I needed this. You were amazing by the way" I said smiling. I kissed his forehead and we headed in for class.

What a good day. I feel a lot more relaxed. I don't feel numb anymore, just calm and satisfied with life. This is blissful. I wish it could last forever.

If only it could last forever.
