A D&D Wizard in DC

Alexzander is your not-so-average nobody. He wakes up, goes to work, comes home, and sleeps. Only the occasional superhero battle breaks his days of mediocracy. Then one day everything changes. Suddenly he gained the ability to cast magic and not just any magic. No, he gained the spells and abilities of a high-level magic caster from D&D. Not only that but he gained the ability to use powerful rituals. However, life won't be easy for Alexzander as old wounds from a past best-forgotten open. ...... This fanfic is a slow burn. So don't expect major plot points to happen quickly. Additionally, this is kind of my " Don't think too hard about it fic", so don't expect a masterpiece. Also, the Cover Pic isn't mine.

The Storm Approaches(3)

A/n: Sorry for the delay, personal stuff.

Also Keep in mind that Alex can only cast 1st-3rd level spells competently. 4th level are possible but tend to be finicky. There are exceptions to this rule however like Teleport, and most healing spells though.

Finally, Alex is inexperienced in fights.

Now! Onto the story!

...

Alex had made a mistake. A mistake that he's made many times since he was a child, and will continue to do because of his nature.

He had let himself space out while he walked home.

Now, normally this just leads to an uncomfortable situation. Like that time he ended up in the red-light district by accident. Or that time he got mugged by a Falcone member because he bumped into him by mistake.

However, sometimes it leads him into real trouble.

Like now, as he peeks into an alleyway from behind a dumpster to avoid the eyes of two villains fighting Batwoman.

'Damn my ADHD!' complained Alex mentally.

He had only shown up at the second Batwoman was stabbed by the brown-eyed woman, and promptly hid himself the moment he realized where he was, and more specifically what was happening.

And for the last few seconds, he has been panicking over what he should do.

' Should I just walk away? No, I can't do that she's been stabbed! Wait till they leave? If I do that they may kill her outright before I get a chance to heal her. I could bring her back, but considering Gods exist that's just asking for trouble. I really don't want to go near that rabbit hole. What if I upset someone from the Greek pantheon or something? Or what i-'

Calm washed over him as he gripped his emotions. His eyes lost their unfocused nature and gained a bit of steel.

' Okay, think about this calmly. I'm going to try and save Batwoman, that's a given. Not only because it's the right thing to do, but because she's a possible outlet to find information on the Court. Now the question is how?'  Thought Alex calmly.

Looking from behind the dumpster he gained some insight into his potential battlefield.

' The man, or "Butch" as I overheard, isn't far from the woman, "Fish", stabbing Batwoman. Around twenty feet. A single use of the {Flare} Cantrip should give me enough time to get Batwoman out of there. I, thankfully, don't need to fight these two, just get the female caped crusader to safety.' Calculated Alex as he finalized his plan.

Nodding to himself, Alex readied the spells he would need to pull this off, including a few offensive spells in case things got dicey. The spells, {Bull's strength}, {Cat's Grace}, {Bear's Endurance}, and {Mage Armor} however, he cast immediately as precautions.

Similarly to {Bull's strength}, {Bear's Enduarnce} increases an attribute by four times, namely his physical endurance. {Mage Armor} however, creates a magic forcefield 1ft in diameter that surrounds the caster and acts as a barrier worth Forty times the durability of the caster.

Once he was done casting his support spells, which took less than six seconds, Alex was ready.

Looking at Batwoman, however, he added one last addition to his plan.

' Let's give her a warning .' Thought Alex as he also cast the message Spell, and told her to close her eyes.

At the same time, he cast a slightly overcharged {Flare} spell momentarily blinding the two villains. Causing them to recoil back in shock, confusion, and slight pain.

Then Alex cast {Dimension Door} and in a flash appeared adjacent to Batwoman. To avoid any possible complications the mage thrust a hand out toward each villain and cast two separate spells.

{Hold Person} on the woman, and an uncontrolled burst of {Telekinesis} towards the male.

The woman was immediately locked in place and unable to move. A look of absolute shock adorning her face, her eyes still in a state of blindness.

The male, however, was less fortunate as he was viciously flung into a wall with a loud smack as his head impacted the building's outer shell before collapsing into a state of unconsciousness.

Holding back a grimace at the condition of the large man, Alex went to pick up Batwoman but winced as something hit his shield. Swiftly turning around his eyes widened as he saw a high caliber sniper round halfway piercing his {Mage Armor}.

He didn't even get a moment to comprehend the fact he would have died without his {Mage Armor} before another round soared towards his position from a building half a mile away. His eyes were able to actually perceive the bullet due to his enhanced perception. That didn't mean he could dodge it though.

A sharp crack rang out as the shot once again nearly completely pierced his armor.

With gritted teeth, Alex threw out his hand and cast three {Wall of Force} spells two for either side of the alley, and one for above them.

Immediately an invisible protective force enveloped the alley preventing further attacks from reaching Alex. And as if to prove it, the brown-eyed male watched as a sniper round that would have hit his shield is instead flattened as it hit the beginning of the alley.

Letting out a sigh he didn't know he was holding, Alex quickly re-casted {Mage Armor} to repair the damage done to his force field and turned to Batwoman.

Only to instead meet the large fist of Butch.

He barely managed to widen his eyes before the fist impacted his shield, cracking it and sending him flying backward into the {Wall of Force} he had made moments ago.

"Ugh."

A low groan of pain slipped past his mouth as he bounced off the wall and landed face first onto the ground. The force shield may stop any damage from direct hits, but impacting a wall or the ground can still rattle Alex.

Looking up from his position he saw the tall man looking worriedly over Fish while trying to free her.

'That didn't go well. Nope didn't go well at all.' Alex thought to himself as he slowly stood to his feet.

His mind swirled with ideas of how he could deal with this quickly. Until he nearly face palmed when he realized a very simple solution.

With another cast of {Dimension Door}, Alex appeared next to Butch and quickly cast {Deep Slumber}. A wave of blue dust washed over the large man and the effects of it were instant.

Eyes drooped, knees wobbled, and the powerful man collapsed.

' Why the hell didn't I think of that in the first place?' Wondered Alex.

However, Alex wasn't done yet. He had seen the man get up after being brutally slammed against the wall, and wasn't about to risk it again.

' I could kill him, Fish said something about him healing fast so a single blast of {Burning Hands} should do it.' Alex thought to himself, his inner thoughts cold and ruthless.

His hands glowed red with small embers of fire floating gently through the air as he charged his spell, a premonition of what was to come,

However, his thoughts turned to a different and much darker path as he remembered the woman he had cast {Hold Person on}. Looking at her still bound and struggling form, an unpleasant grin stretched across his face.

' She's quite beautiful, isn't she. A use of {Dominate Person} and a few rounds of {Hypnotism} could make her quite the cute pe- '

"Ughh"

His grin fell, being replaced by a look of horror, and his dark thoughts were sealed deeply within his mind as the sound of Batwoman groaning in pain snapped him out of it.

" What the hell is wrong with me! Why the fuck would I think that!" Alex said in horror of himself.

He knows what it feels like to be a pet. A slave! So why the hell would he wish that on anybody?!

' No no no no no no no no no no no no! Now is not the time for this!  Impending mental issues  later, saving Batwoman now!' Alex told himself.

His mind calmed, and his eyes focused as his negative emotions were once more suppressed.

Giving the area a look around before he attempted anything, he was happy to see that Butch was still unconscious and Fish was still under the effects of his spell.

Walking over the prone form of Batwoman Alex picked her up Bridal style and began casting {Teleport}.

Six seconds later Alex along with Batwoman disappeared from the alley.
