Chapter 32 - Book 1 Epilogue

Yuragi Sou, twelve hours after Touma managed to save Index. Inside the dungeon where Kaori and Stiyl were locked up.

"Why did you release us both two days after you locked us in this prison?" Asked a confused Kaori. "What is your reason for releasing the two of us who are clearly your enemies?"

"Hmm? There's no particular reason, really," Replied Touma with his usual lackluster face. "It's just that grandpa will scold me if I lock up the Necessarius members like you two for too long."

Kaori, knew Touma's answer was a lie. But she didn't want to add to the trouble by saying unnecessary things, after all as long as she and Stiyl could be free and get out of Yuragi Sou which was hell for her that would be enough.

"Stiyl, let's get out of this room and leave this inn with Index," Kaori said while touching the shoulder of Stiyl whose face was currently pale and in a state of shock from not smoking for a long time. "We've spent too much time in Academy City."

"Cigarettes! I need cigarettes! Quickly give me cigarettes!" Stiyl said whose condition was getting worse. To the point that he was about to strangle Kaori if he didn't get a cigarette.

Kaori quickly hit Stiyl's brainstem to knock himself out, and when Stiyl fainted he reverted back to his true form a thirteen year old boy who was not much different in height from Index. Kaori then carried Stiyl's body on her back and took a deep breath.

"This stupid kid smokes so much that he goes into depression if he doesn't smoke for a long time," Kaori said. "Once I get back to Necessarius I'll suggest him to go to a rehab program so he doesn't smoke anymore. And becomes a normal person."

"Well, just take it, that arrogant brat, and get away from Yuragi Sou," Touma said who didn't want to bother with Stiyl who was addicted to cigarettes. "But you can't take Index away, because she's already eaten something very expensive that belongs to my grandfather. And she's not allowed to leave here until she pays all the debts she owes."

"Whaaat! You can't do that! Index is someone very important to Necessarius!" Kaori shouted. "My superiors will scold me, if I don't take Index with me. And that's what Index has eaten, that you're saying that she owes so much!"

"I know the reason why she's so important to your organization, and frankly I don't care about the one hundred and three thousand grimoires that Necessarius stole from various places and kept inside her head," Touma said. "And the thing that Index has eaten is a 'magic bean' that can heal wounds in an instant, regrow severed body parts and restore stamina. The cost of one bean is trillions of yen, and she ate a large amount of it. So Index's debt is in the tens or even hundreds of trillions of yen."

Kaori's mouth fell open when she heard the words that escaped Touma's lips. She wasn't too surprised to hear that Touma knew about the hundred and three thousand grimoires, as many people outside of Necessarius knew the same thing. But regarding magic beans that can heal wounds in an instant, restore stamina and even regenerate lost body parts for trillions of yen.

This was the first time for Kaori that she had heard of an item with such an extraordinary effect. Coupled with the extremely high price of the item, it was only natural that Index who had eaten a large quantity of the beans was not allowed to leave before she could pay her debt.

"Tchh, even though I'm really angry thaI can bring Index back, I understand that Index is indeed at fault because she ate a lot of magic beans with an unreasonable price," Kaori said who was annoyed at Touma. "But can you make some leeway and let me take Index away, if you allow me to take Index away I promise I'll send you enough money to replace all the nuts she's eaten."

"Sorry I can't, I can't give any leeway in this," Touma said coldly towards Kaori. "Because I will be scolded so badly by my grandfather, if I let Index go away from Yuragi Sou. And I also doubt if your organization has enough money to pay Index's debt, considering the debt that Necessarius owed my grandfather a few years ago they also haven't been able to repay."

Feeling that she would only be wasting time if she kept arguing with Touma at this point Kaori could only give up. Apart from being in enemy territory, she didn't want to cause trouble with someone who had already defeated her and atleast Index staying at a safe place.

"Tssk alright, I'll go for now," Kaori said with a face full of anger. "But keep this in mind, I'm going back to take Index away, paying off all her debts and you can't stop me from doing that!"

Kaori walked past Touma while carrying Stiyl, and disappeared behind the corridor.

Touma yawned once again, his battle against Index John Penn mode draining a lot of stamina. To this day he skipped school because he was tired. To make Komoe and Seiri not angry with him, he even prepared a letter containing the reason why he didn't go to school. He left the letter to Shizuka of course, because if he had left the letter to Kirika or Motoharu the two of them would definitely not have given the letter to Komoe or Seiri.

At a school called Hoshinoumi Gakuen, a female student named Tomori Nao is looking at two documents containing data about Shokuhou Misaki and Misaka Mikoto. The two level five Espers she had been eyeing for long enough to enter Hoshinoumi Gakuen. A school she was very proud of and loved.

For Nao Tomori and Jōjirō Takajō who have overactive imaginations and excessive delusions due to the experiments that Academy City has carried out on the two of them, the esper abilities possessed by the students in Academy Town are not from the results of experiments, but from a comet radiation named Charlotte.
