Chapter 33: Compromises

Ronnie’s POV

Pulling into my driveway, I see an old worn-down Honda parked on one side. It baffles my mind because I can’t imagine anyone with that car. I turn my car off and get out.

Walking around the Honda, I inspect it. There’s a crack in the driver’s side window, rust and dents all over the body, and the muffler is one big bump away from falling off.

Whoever is driving this car is basically driving a ticking time bomb!

I walk into the house and smell BBQ sauce and different spices. There’s some sort of pop song quietly playing in the background. I walk into the kitchen and find Nancy swaying her hips to the beat of the music. She’s moving around the kitchen like she’s lived here longer than I have.

Nancy turns around, flinching when sees me.

“Oh! You scared me. I didn’t hear the front door open.”

“Do you have a friend over? I saw a car in the driveway and wasn’t sure whose it was,” I say, pointing toward the front door. Nancy tilts her head and glances at the door.
