Chapter 37

He goes to finish dinner. I turn my head to watch him again

It's hard to believe THE Prince Koda is taking care of me including cleaning up my pee.

Koda goes into my workspace and comes back out with two of my herbs and salt.

"What are you gonna do with that?"

"I put it into the soup. It's delicious and adds a nice flavor to it."

I watch him put in some edible herbs.

"How did you know those herbs wouldn't hurt me?"

"I never gave you anything I didn't try first."

"Sorry, I'm asking so many questions. I'm just curious about how you think. The only males I've been around were family, even at the temple, I was training to become a healer so there was a lot I had to learn and do by myself. I didn't care I liked being alone when it comes to me being around a lot of people I didn't want to get to know."

"It's fine and I suppose I understand. Your nothing but a nosy kitten." He smirks at the end.

I think he's trying to make me feel better. And it's working.

"You can ask me anything and I'll answer you honestly."

"Do you know how my family is doing?"

"I leave every morning to go train with your dad. And every morning I have to report on your condition. The last two days, you can tell he's not doing so well. He looks like he's not sleeping and eating enough. Ryker comes to see you when he can and most of the time it's in the middle of the night. He talks to you and tells you how everyone else is doing but I could tell he was lying. You can ask him tonight how everyone is doing."

"Okay." Dad and I have spent so much time together, I see why he wouldn't be doing well, but still. He needs to pull it together and take care of himself or I'll suffer from worrying over him.

"Anything else you want to know." He walks over with a bowl of root soup and it smelled so good.

I tried to sit up so I can eat but fall back down. Laying down for so long has made my body numb.

"Looks like I'm too weak to sit up," I shyly mutter.

He looks at me before saying, "Do you mind if I sit behind you and hold you up?"

"Yes, that's fine." I used to sit in dad's lap all the time, this shouldn't be too different.

Koda slowly lifts me up and gets behind me. He puts the bowl to my mouth and slowly lets me drink the soup.

After I finish the soup Koda gently lays me back down and goes to clean up his mess.

I couldn't help but ask. "I'm not as hungry as I thought I'd be after sleeping for so long. Did you feed me while I was unconscious?"

"Yes, I did."

"How?"

He smiles at me. "If I tell you that you'll keep ignoring me again." He teased.

My eyes widen in surprise. Yeah, let's not ask.

"If you're this socked over how I fed you, how are you going to bathe?" He continues to playfully tease me.

My mind went blank from his words.

He's seen all of me. Why did this just now occur to me?

I start to feel self-conscious. I'm beautiful but what if it's not good enough? What if I'm not good enough for anyone?

These thoughts sadden me. "Can I ask you something and you tell me honestly what you think?" I look back at him and he nods. "Do you think I'm deserving of a mate? Mother thinks all I'd be good for is giving birth, and I know I'm different from other females in many ways but still I'm afraid that I may forever be alone." I don't know why but I want to cry.

He walks over and hugs me.

"If there is anyone in the lands that deserve to have a mate it's you. I haven't known you long but from what I've seen your even better than all the females." Koda speaks honestly. I got the feeling that he wanted to tell me more but he stopped there.
