Faith was trying to find her way through the maze of corridors. She heard the rhythmic pounding of her heart and felt a pang of doubt. That message could have been a trap. But the possibility of ending this threat hanging over her head and her uncle's was worth it.
When she rearranged her clothes after the heated meeting with her knight on the balcony, she had discovered a message tucked under her waistband. Earlier that night, when the crowd gathered to greet her, someone must have slipped the message beneath her sash.
The invitation was clear. "Come by the fountain on the west side of the palace at midnight. I will tell you exactly which lords plan to kill you and the King and whom to trust."
No signature or name accompanied the note. The handwriting was clear and neat, like the person who wrote it had taken calligraphy lessons. But couldn't assassins have nice handwriting? Or have someone else write the letter for them?
